new strings and moist fingers will definitely help.

i've got the elixer strings on my bass, but i haven't tried them on guitar yet.

i know a great way to get your fingers coated that also has the added benefit of putting wifey down for a nap.

I'll add my recommendation for Elixir strings. I have used them, and I really like the tone of the strings, and the squeaks are much less noticeable. But, the strings do have a specific character, which some people do not like. And they take a little getting used to. The first time I strung my baby up with them, and slid my fingers from an open E-minor chord to an Em at the 14th fret, it felt like my fingers were going to fly off into space the slide was so smooth
