Ok i am Eric i am 14 and doing a 4 peice band. I been playin for 3 years adn it is time for a band! I hav no idea Waht to get so i can heard the singer. I am on a really tight budget. i hav a 175 watt preamp my friend gave me to get me started but i don't know where to go from their. The guitar are fine and the drumset won't need a mic.

If you want to run it through a computer this is what you will need:

Software- I would recommend something from cakewalk.(Prices Pending.)

Mic/Mics-I hear that the Sm57($89) is great.

Sound Card-AudioPhile2496($99)

You can get all of this stuff for under $300. For just starting out you should be o.k.

I am only 15 and dont know much about this kind of stuff. I think you should get an opinion from one of the more experienced on this. I think this should work though.

Am I correct guys?

If you just want to get sound to the computer, and you dont care to sacriface the quality for now, just use the onboard soundcard, then i would suggest going with a decent dynamic such as the sm57 stated above. You said you have a 175 watt pre amp...well...i dont think a pre amp should be rated quite that high. I think you may be mistaken and actually what you have is a 175 watt amp...if you run that into your sound card...kiss it bye bye. if that is the case, you will need a mic pre for your mic. just get a cheap Yamaha MG series mixer for about $100 for your pre's. You can get some pretty good, free multitracking software from Krystal audio...here is the link... http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/index.php?section=download

Keep in mind...this will not be a very professional setup but it will let you record your own tunes until you can afford to upgrade.
