Don't expect cheap practice amps ...

I am chiming in 3 pages and days too late, but I recorded the tracks to "Daddy's Little Girl" with a 10-watt Yamaha practice amp and a Laney 25-watt amp. Everyone who listened to that song raved about my rhythm guitar sound.

So it's not the amp as much as how you record it. That Yamaha amp sounds like shit on its own in any room. The distortion isn't controllable either. It's on or off, so if you aren't careful, you get a whole lotta fuzz.

But look what I did with it...

I gotta say that I have gotten some very useful sounds from cheap gear, in fact I have heard some amazing sounding recordings on a rather limited amount of gear.... Thinking about just having a single SM57 a pair of headphones and a Tascam 414 I am reminded of some really cool recordings that were made inside a lot of dorm rooms over the years... Everything Harvey ever gave positive reviews of or for worked well when I tried it.
