Of course Ill stand here and tell y'all that I dont advocate theft in any way, but the reality of theft isnt an issue of morality, its an issue of needs. Yes you got plenty of brainiac rich kids that rip off 7 -11for a six pack for their juveneille kicks, and yes thats plain wrong.. but damn, yall ever seen someone hungry? See i live in a cheap ass college community, and the area is nothing but party kids, dumb drugs, and cheap rent, paradise for your average 21 year old, but who would move thier family in? Talk to the lady that lives four cribs down. She jamaiocan, works two jobs, and has four kids. She has a deadbeat boyfriend, he comes by when his liquor and beer get low, and three adorable lil girls (the princess trio i call em. ) and a one 16 year old, whos right on track for jail.. the hard life had him, and it itkilledme in all honesty to see him. thyve lived here abouit 2 years, and I used to play ball with him and his boys when the summer months were upon us, and one day, i had em over, playin X-box. they messed my crib up!, they had never seen so many toys, well one of his boys has, and to be honest, Im scarec to have him over again. Anyways, the 16 year old, call him Del, he saw my tables in my room, and asked about all the synths he saw, i showed my rig, and he was just in love.. man, he didnt know software could do the stuff that I showed him. Of course our taste in music is much different, but nonethless, he realized that to get the music thing in his mind, it wasnt gonna be all about bling bling, it would be about time sittin in front of the computer, studying, makinhis formulas stick, and being dedicated. One day one of my college boys got a new lappie, and decided to get rid of his old P-III 1 ghz. It was loaed, well loaded enough, with memory, 512m, and a smallish hard drive. Well by todays standards thats not enough to geton the internet with, let alone rock serious beats, so I acquired it from my freind, and threw it to the kid, thinkin it would be enough to get some homework done or something. Turns out he wants a simpe DAW, like mine. i didnt realize it, but the kid had been hit with the bug, and it wanst gonna let him go anytime soon.
Look fellas im not tryin to advocate shit, but damn, when you see how the kid was wantin for the ability to make beats, and knowing that he would be so far and away from it, I couldnt help it. I felt the easiest way was to get him some software, but I was not able to put any real money in it, so I got him an Audigy off of eBy, and threw him a opy of Reason, yes stolen off the net. I didnt have Reason that the time, so i wsnt too familiar with it, but you shouldve seen this kid.. within two months he had fully worked Dancehall tracks, and he was monitoring off of blown cone Sonys, the kid had the bass solid! I mean, wow. I hated it, cause Im really not oen to steal, and Im ultra paranoid of the RIAA, digital theft is at an all time danger now. But when i see that kid staying home on fridays nights, badly distorted bass coming out of the unair conditioned window, Im thinking, Its good. thats all i can say. maybe my actions were wrong, hasty, and unfair to the corporate economy, but I dont have to look into their eyes, i only look into his. I wish i could really afford to put more money into his game, but I really cant afford it, and I feel content enough that i did my part. I mean i would just have him over, but my place can be wild sometimes, and its just not right ot have a 16 year old hanging at my place. I aint tryin to have rumours fly. So I cnat say I feel too bad about my part in theft. Please dont hate me, but I really didnt know where to turn. By the way, I dont use any cracked software, besides the copy of 2000 i put on his system, and Reason. My point is that i wish people wouldnt make all sitautions be as black and white as we wish they could be. And next time you hear of some ill situation, think it out before you go to hurtin somebody. Not everyone comes from the same mindset and life.
PS, if you guys know of anything I can get to help him out further, free standalone music app, please tell me. Peace
