I never auditioned them. Im always nervous about making purchases that way. Ive heard alot of good things about them and after burning major money on studio construction I didn't have much money left for filling my mic requirements. I usually tel my wife Im going to buy something before I actually do it, which turns it into a double doh! I was going to get a ecm8000 and a 603 but went for a pair of 603's. If Im not back by monday...call the authorites and have them interview my wife

It's a pretty safe purchase. I wouldn't have a problem ordering a couple of sm57's without auditioning them, and I wouldn't have a problem with a couple of the 603s, either.

Cool, thanks guys, the last pair of sdc's I used were akg 451's in my younger pro days. Im just happy I have a studio at home now. So how do I get rid if this twitching in my eye?

I can't think of two SDC's that are more opposite than the 451 and the 603.

It's alright. I did the exact same thing. I got a pair of 603's and 1 ecm8000. Should have went for a pair of the ecm's, but I was gun shy, not having heard them. Jury's still out on the ecm. Haven't found the perfect use for it. The 603's have been set up since the day I got them as drum overheads. Use em almost everyday.

My opinion

I ordered a pair of ECMs and had to send them back. I found they had too much self noise to be used for critical (quiet) acoustic recording. Probably O.K. for drums althoughI hear you can overdrive them pretty easily.

I think you made a good choice. (the same one I would make)

Many people swear by them though.....

Its like Turkey, somedays I want dark meat and some days I like whitemeat.

I like the one 603 that I have. Good for acoustic guitar. I should have ordered 2 myself. Probably will have to get another one soon.

Jury's still out on the ecm. Haven't found the perfect use for it.

I still haven't found a single use for it. That is having to do with music anyway.
I'm happy with the 603 as a drum overhead mic. I should have ordered two myself. I'm using it paired up with a Nady CM-88 which is also pretty good considering it was only $50.
