And if you feel it? Then like me, you can do a sax part in a song, and it will sound and feel like a sax player did it? I don't play the sax, but I play the keys? And I can emulate a sax... But I played it? I didn't use a sax player from Band In a Box? It should be simple to understand, but people are killed around the world every day for simple misunderstandings :-(

Is this guy not a sax player? This is the SW I use... Stephano rocks "hard." And Samplemodeling "rules." The fact that it's not someone blowing in to an instrument (although I do have a breath controller?) But the fact that someone is not blowing in to a reed, (IMO) does not necessarily make them less of a sax player. As long as you can listen to the track, and at the end say "damn! That guy can really play the sax!"

The new Samplemodeling baby ! Mr. Sax.T. The most expressive Virtual Saxophone ever! - YouTube

Watch the whole video and tell me he's not a sax player? Again, No loops, he played it... He just played it on the keys? I've used Samplemodeling on songs and people have said, "man that sax player!"

I play many instruments, keys, guitar, bass, mandolin, dobro, violin, percussion, and others. But the keys gives you the ability to explore "anything?" I've played banjo on songs? I don't play the banjo? But when you hear the song? You'll be like, man, that's a good banjo player! (and I didn't use loops, I played the banjo? I just did it on the keyboard...)

NOT "Not cool?" But conversely? "Very cool..." ;-)

Well no? I played the drums? .

No, you didn't. Working a drum machine is not playing the drums. If you actually knew how to play the drums you'd easily see the vast, huge diference between the two. Using keys for a sax track is not playing a sax. I can use MIDI for sax tracks. Anyone can. I can push keys on a controller and trigger sax sounds. What I cannot do is actually put a sax in my mouth and make usable sounds with it. Huge difference. Rationalize it however you want. I just found it funny how you tried to make it seem as if you used real drums while implying that loops users are somehow frauds.

There is a much greater sense of satisfaction from playing the drums yourself. Feels like a breath of fresh air. Infinitely more gratifying than the stifling thought that you couldn't play the drums yourself and had to synthesize them. I have done both and I greatly prefer to beat those skins.

Yes, exactly. I don't look down on anyone that uses loops, or taps their fingers on a drum machine. I only took a little issue with someone claiming to play the drums, when they didn't, while talking down to or about loops people. I think it's pretty much blatant hypocrisy. As an actual drummer that takes a little pride in what I can do, I have to speak up. The way I see it - use your loops and be proud of it, use your drum machine and be proud of it, play your drums and be proud of it. It's all good. Don't use loops or drum machines and claim that you "played the drums". That's lame. I have no respect for that. Just my opinion though. I do apologize for getting off-track in the thread.

I can see your points, but we'll have to agree to disagree :-)

1. "Actually playing the drums?" Yes.

2. Tracking them using MIDI, with/o loops? Not as good, but you're still writing the part, including the velocities, ghost notes, rolls, fills and "the basic groove."

3. Using loops, it's the most time effective? And since most people don't play drums, and don't want to take the time to play them in to MIDI using a keyboard and then editing them, most people (maybe not here) I believe choose this option. And still get some amazing drum tracks...

I have a pretty good drum bus going now in remix 4. I'm happy with it. I bounce things off of drummers to get their input/opinions as well. The drums here took me 2 weeks... I did play the percussion, congas, shakers and tambo.

Okay agree to disagree. But let me boil it down to it's very essence for you:

If you weren't sitting at a kit, be it electronic or acoustic, swinging sticks, stomping a kick drum, then you didn't play any drums.

Did you write a drum part? Sure. Did you play any drums? Nope.

Pretty good cover Robbie? I enjoyed it? Vocals sound really good for the song? But about the drum stuff

I don't have the coordination to actually play them,

It's probably not so much this

since most people don't play drums, and don't want to take the time to play them

as this? A trained monkey can play any musical instrument given enough practice time? I'm sure the first time you sat down with a guitar you couldn't play anything usable either? I think the idea of "talent" is misunderstood by most people? If you don't play an instrument, chances are it's because you've never been interested enough to invest the practice time, and there's nothing wrong with that?

And a lot of people use programs like Trillogy for bass? As a bass player from back in the day, I pluck mine :-) And it took a long time, but I'm not half bad on the fretless these days :-) Some people even use simulated guitar (harrassy!)

But philosophically, what's the difference between faking drums and faking guitar/bass? Maybe people who use simulated guitar don't have the "coordination" to play a real one? And they did have to write the guitar lines?

Again, well done cover?

OK, I don't disagree with any of what you're saying? But what's with the question marks?

You don't have to actually dress up for halloween? You can just feel it in your heart and say you did because in your heart you did?

love the old 3 dog night stuff..
this one was a great one to cover, excellent job!

Thank you Mr. Gonzo/Batsbrew, I am a long time admirer of your skills...

Just put what I believe is my final mix up.

I changed "many things..."

The mixing to me is a black art? I've been learning as I go, but the science of it is "wide and deep..."

Here's my final .wav, I think it's sexy? I have volume, but dynamics? I didn't want it to look like a condom.
