**Note, as I believe this is both a vocal topic, as well as a mix crit? I'll be cross posting. I am not doing so to offend.

New original, it’s called “Soft truths.” I didn’t set out to write it? I am the vessel, and songs come to me, I’m just glad they’re still coming!

A friend collaborated with me on this gem. I wrote it, and recorded it and then sent it to him for his opinion and to add a lead?

Well, he produced it, redid the drums (everyone likes his drums better) added some rhythm guitar, added some orchestration, did the solo, recommended the dobro in the beginning (which I added) and Mark did the mix.

He is the Seals to my Croft, he is the Garfunkel to my Simon, and I am proud to have him as a colab partner.

Submitted for your approval, I think it’s a monster hit?
At the top, “Soft truths.”

I believe we all have and live with "Soft truths..." Sometimes from us personally? And sometimes from others close to us.

I'm playing the Goodall 6, a Taylor 12, and a Warwick fretless. the bro is my Goldtone. Good mics and pre-amps, I know Mark's stuff is the shizzy as well. I did the piano in Ivory, and my strings were EWQL Gold, He redid the drums (I think with Superior?) I'm really pleased with how it turned out, but also very interested in feedback from the mix-masters :-)

Drift Away meets Tiny Dancer..... Great mix, no problems from what I can hear. Well done...

Not bad only nit is I would drop the vocals a bit in the mix.

Thanks Simman, we're doing a remix based on a lot of feedback! Ido? LOL! Someone on another forum said something about Tiny Dancer! hahahah! I wasn't trying to rip Mr. John? :-) But I was learning to love music when his and other influences were popular... It's just funny that you heard that, and someone else heard it too. And it was the furthest thing from my mind until you guys said it. hahaha. As Dan Quayle said when addressing the NAACP, "a mind is a terrible thing to lose, or not to have a mind, that would be even worse." What a moron. (Not you? Old Danny boy... I'm sure he's glad we have Sheriff Joe now? Makes Dan look like a Mensa candidate! LOL!!)

I'm sure everything I write sounds like something already written. It's just mathematics. :D

I understand, we've been "influenced" it's why I don't write any wrap or hip-hop?

I just posted up the 1st remix, I think it's much better. Based on a lot of feedback received on another forum.

Wow! nicely done

If I were to change anything I'd try to bring out the low end a little more but that just may be my taste.
Great song. sounds really good

I'm not sure I'd take being called the garfunkle in the partnership too well. He was a crucial part of the magic but not quite that in the rest of the process. - Just joking.
Nicely done by both of you, (I'd probably have dumped the strings but that's personal taste).

I agree, Art helped make it "Art..." And who doesn't like more bottom? :-) Thanks guys!

A 2nd remix is posted...

My partner (we're not gay? Not that there's anything wrong with that?) is responsible for the mix. He's good... Really good? I think this mix is much better.

He's a freaking wizard at the mixing. It's a mystery to me...

The bass is tweaked in this mix, you can hear my fretless... You're welcome. I have a relationship with that instrument.

"Soft Truths" is a nice piece. SHould be a hit but I agree with dropping the vocals just slightly in some areas. Not that the vocals are bad but they drown out the accompaniment in a way that I don't think was intentional. Great work

Hey there Legend. Thanks a pantload, I passed your feedback to the mixmaster. I like it with me up in the mix :-) But that doesn't mean it's good? So again, I appreciate and value your opinion. Thank you for listening and for commenting.

Smooth mix Robbie, good performances all round. I can see what ray means about the strings, but they come down to your personal preference.

I just think the mix is a little bit lacking in air - I wonder whether the drums have had their high end cut. They sound to me like they could do with some gentle eq tweaking to give them a touch more presence.

Thanks Rob, I sent your comments on to the engineer, we really appreciate your feedback.

I don't care who you are? People? Other people? Hear things in your .... that you cannot hear. They do? You can't... Which is why I value feedback here so much. It's very difficult to get? I wish more people who listened commented like Rob and others. There are a few who comment quite a bit, and they are usually pros, and they know what they are talking about. But we all have ears? All of us... And we all have opinions? I mean 5 mix pros could comment and have different takes? It doesn't mean that any of them are wrong? It's really all a matter of perspective, and in a group of artists and engineers? Perspective? Well... You can't really put a price on it.

I actually sent him (the engineer) a track tonight. He wanted more dobro? So I played it as an accompanyment instrument throughout the song and told him to use what he liked :-)

This sounds really really nice!

I couldn't let it pass without commenting on your artist bio though.lol.
Hope no one takes it seriously. :p

My Colab partner got X2? The latest version was mixed in Sonar X1. He said he was attempting to remix it in X2? I told him, "at some point? it's as good as it can get! :-) But I will post the remix if he "and I" think it's better than the current version...
