I'm just wondering if I can record guitar and bass by using this.
And to record, is all you need on your laptop a USB port and a decent soundcard? And are we talking USB 2 here? And also does it come with drivers or do you need to find them?
Thanks for any help.

the sound card wont have anything to do with the quality cause it just goes direct to USB.

Are you a bass player? Or just wanting to record some bass parts?

You might be able to get a couple decent bass tones out of it (using for example, the Fender Bassman amp sim, or, if you're a bass player you'd be better off going with the Bass Pod, designed for bass.

And yes, PodXT works via USB. I'm sure it works with USB 2, but it will also work fine with the prior version.

I am a bassist but what I am looking for is something both me and my guitarist can use and get decent results, is there anything like this out there?

I've used a POD 2.0 for a Fender Jazz Custom 5 string bass with much better results than going in through a mixer and I bet the POD XT's result would be better. I'd suggest you try it.

I use a V-amp2, which comes at about one third of the price of a POD, for both guitar and bass and I'm pretty happy with the results.
You can check my stuff out here if you want:

Listen to 'Clocks' or 'I am the highway' for the best bass..
