does phantom power hurt certain mics

I'm just getting started putting together a modest basement project studio and I read somewhere that phantom power can hurt some mics. I am using a 16 channel Soundcraft board that has one phantom power switch for all of the channels. I have read the boards manual-which is poorly written-and saw no mention of the negative effects of phantom power.
My question is: What mics can potentially be damaged and under what circumstances? I intend on using both condensor and dynamic mics simultaneously.

As long as you don't have any major-league faulty cables, you should have no problem with phantom power- unless you use a ribbon mic. Ribbons are notoriously vulnerable to phantom power, which can fry them expensively.-Richie

I believe its been said that phantom power is dangerous with the older ribbons but not the newer ones.

Phantom power is ok on dynamic mics for the most part. That is unless you have bad grounding, and then your singer may get a nice zap on the lips!!!! Its funny to watch them squeel while being electrocuted. Buhhhaaa,,,,,,BBUUUHHHAAAA HHAAAHAHAA. Oh sorry.

Ahhh... that takes me back! tee hee my first gig... the only gig ive worked on to where i didnt do the PA myself

And the point of phantom power was that you could turn it on, safe in the knowlege that it would power the mics that needed it, and not bother the ones that didnt.

Guess they didnt do their homework on older mics mind you, why would you be using a ribon mic anyway?

"used to" is a better phrase. Now we have better equipment. So now I cant zap him anymore. But it was funny to watch him singing and during a soft part of the song, he would lean into the mic, and bam!!!! His face would get all contorted like he just ate something sour. It was funny at the time!
