holy cow!

i'm guessing that you lived there when "IT" happened?

I work downtown....New York Stock Exchange. I visit ground zero every so often.

Actually where I work, and yeah I was "there". I almost didn't make it.

Ok, Ok... PLEASE...

Yes, the pre's on the VLZ Pro are quite usable. I owned a 1604, and it worked well for me. A bit "crisp" but you can warm them up with a bit of outboard FX - (or plug-ins if you go that route.)

dunno, but why spend on built in effects into the mixer if you use computer software for effects? I always like adding effects later. You want a dry signal usually recorded, just in case you decide you don't like the effect later on.

keilson,

i don't use a computer(unless i want to make a mp3 ,god knows how you do that) i use the fostex vf-16 daw recorder. it has 2 effects processers built iin so i can add effects as i please. i'm not really after the effects on the mixer, but i cound use them as exturnal effects for my recorder by hooking it up to the aux in (i think)

I agree

I would forget about the built in effects on the board. All in ones have way more stuff to go wrong/
Jut My opinion.

Zeke, how do you expect having a mixer compared to just getting a
single or dual mic pre is going to help you? Have you considered getting
a "voice channel" (mic pre/compressor/eq) instead?

Chris

yeah, but there a little to much right now. the main thing that i'm thinking about getting a mixer is to supply phamtom power on
ALL of my channels. and get xlr inputs.

I've used both the DFX-12 and 1402VLZ....The DFX-12 is a live board, the mic pre's aren't as good as the VLZ type.

But why not rent one of each and hear for yourself? And just for fun rent a decent outboard pre to compare. And do you really need 8 simultaneous channels of phantom power? Where the heck are your dynamic mics, all replaced with KM-184's?
Good luck with your budget-balancing act,
Jim

Just curious, Zeke, but if one writes "god" with a lowercase "g". doesn't that, by definition, NOT refer to your particular Judeo-Christian deity, but the generic use of the word, or as in the gods of various mythologies (Odin, Thor, Zeus, Isis, Anubis, etc.) and pagan idols (Astarte, Baal, etc.)?

So if one were to write "goddamn", it would be about as profane as saying Ted Williams was the god of hitting. Or perhaps you object to generic use of the word as well?

I suppose then it's ok to use clever sound alikes? So to avoid profane expletives you would use phrases like "Cheeze and Crackers" instead of "Jesus Christ", or "doggone" (or "golldang") instead of "God Damn"? Seems a little hypocritical and self-serving to me.

But I guess I'll find out when I'm rotting in Hell!

Or not...
