late night listening

5:30 am in Scotland. Got the cans on. Huge stereo field! Sampled drums? that cymbal over the floor tom sounds a bit far away. I like this, it's very clean. Great acoustic sound. What did you use in the recording? 2 minutes in and that snare sample is starting to irritate me. Maybe pull it back in the mix slightly. I know it's easy to mix things up front you usualy wouldn't when you have no vocals.

There's some nasy 50hz hum at 2:50 where the song stops you could easily wipe out with a wave editor. That fuzz guitar at 1:20 it pretty wide out in the mix too.

Great though, several listens now. It's a grower

Alec.

thnx for your feedback. recording on my acoustic: I use an MXL2003 mic --> Roland MMp-2 preamp --> cakewalk HS i dont have a vocal/recording booth thats why you can hear some unwanted noise. drums are sampled from different products. Kick and snare1 is SuperLoops Samples, Snare2 and Hats/Cymbals is from drumkit from hell. Other instruments are direct recording.

I like the song overall, but that hi hat is killing me. There was something about the first acoustic guitar that I didnt like, it seemed a little overdriven or maybe compressed too much? Ditto about that hum at 2:50...
I like the bass tone, and a good driving bass part always makes a pop song for me. The bass part is sooooo important and you did that well, thats what keeps this song together, at least for me. I love the sound of that arpeggiated guitar; a nice full sound.
Something sounds out of phase, and I dont think thats necessarily a bad thing. Is that how you are getting the wide stereo field with the two acoustic guitars?
Good job!

I really like the song. My biggest beef was the duh duh/duh duh on the high strings of the acoustic guitar at the very beginning. It gets a little annoying cause its kinda loud. If I were you I'd shop this song to some publishers.. its a good demo and a good vocal part by the right person could make this song a hit!

oops somebody said "demo" . If you guys went to the link page, you can read the information below the mp3. Its from Michelle branch 's song "Breathe". I arrange and mix this because i want to capture the recording feel on how branch's song was created. regards. :) i need more feedback. thnx regards
