I'm not a songrwriter, i may have the talent for it , but i've never really put my "hand to the plow", but i just discovered this forum. Yes i am a christian. My main music that i listen to is southern gospel. Is anyone on this thread a southern gospel fan? I play piano for my church. also i sing baritone(ish) for a up-start sg group. but i'm also into gospel, some contemporary, and p & w ..well for the most part ha! just as long as it doesn't get chanty and repetitive lol. that was just my greeting to all of the forum.

on to the topic at hand:
i do agree with what some of the stances are ,especially on the more ccm, I personally do not like when the band waters down their message, and makes the band/song sound just like the "worlds" music. its not a good testimony. Also i agree with what one of the above posters said about some artists who couldn't break out in the secular field, so they jumped to christian just to get a fan base. Its nice to see someone who wants to honestly use their talents for the Lord in the field, even rap. I know of some very quality christian rap groups, not many, but i do know of some, even in the local area. Keep on Serving!

grace and peace

I write Christian songs. I have played guitar since I was 13. I became a Christian at 35. I didnt start writing songs until I was 35. The Lord convicted me to begin writing for HIM not for my life the way it was.

Newest song.

I Want A Father

Looking back in a mirror
At the fruit of a broken home
A young boy's heart is breaking
The light of hope has gone

Reflections in his eyes
reveal the scars of pain
A son without a father,
life would never be the same

In the darkness of the night
another child cries...

(1st Chorus)
I want a father
Whose word I can believe
I want a father
Who will spend time with me
In all my hopes and my dreams
I want a father...
That never leaves

This path alone I journeyed
On my way to be a man
Momma tried to help me
It was out of her hands

Just when I thought the dream was gone
And I was to blame
My life forever changed
When I called out His name

And the light of heaven
Shined on me
As I heard my Lord say...

2nd Chorus)
I am your Father
My Word you can believe
I am your Father
Come unto Me
I am the hope of your dreams
I am the father...
That never leaves

Bridge
I am the Father to the fatherless
Who bear the scars of man
But you are now the child
Of the Great I Am...

(3rd Chorus)
I am You Father
My Word you can believe
I am your Father
Come unto Me
I am the hope of your dreams
I am your Father...
And I'll never leave

Hi George...

Hi George...It's been a while since I've seen this thread go active and always a treat. I've been working in Michigan for the last year w/o internet except wknds.
I lost my Dad at age 6 and I can relate to your lyric here. I heard a song while driving very late one night called "FATHER TO THE FATHERLESS" which is thematicly similar to your song. I was not able to track it down in the catalogs at the Christian Music store, but that was 5-6 years ago. You might want to check it out for
possible, though unintentional infringement issues.
I always grin when I hear anything by the disco group "ABBA". They are truly clueless....

Hi Chazba,

Yeah it's been a while. But better late than never. :)

I haven't heard the song you refer to but I'm not worried about infringement. The line "Father to the fatherless" was published before that song,... in the Bible. :) That's where I got it.

I posted the song "I Want A Father" in the "MP3 Clinic" if anyone cares to listen. I finally recorded it, kinda rushed, but still recorded. :)

Christian Songwriters

Royston sounds just like my daughter only right now, because of everything that has happened to her in the past couple of months, she is much worse. She curses God and says it is all his fault. He has allowed Satan to do these things to her. She says Satan can't do anything to you without Gods permission. I have to agree with her. By the way we are both Christians. Because of all the bad things that has happened, I am very upset with God myself. I am having a hard time going to church. Everyone is entitled to their feelings about things in life. There are reasons we feel the way we do. This is the first time I've been on this website and I the last thing I expected was to see threads like these. Please pray for my daughter and me. We need it. Anyway the reason I am on this site is, I am trying to promote a songwriter. He writes contemporary Christian and love songs and puts music to them using his acoustic guitar. We want to get a recording studio going on my home computer. I downloaded the Kreatives Kristal program that lets you record music but I have no idea as to how it works. Can anyone help me to understand it? I am brand new to it and have no idea as to the lingo they use. We want to sell the songs but have none on the web to listen to yet. I have them on CD made with a karaoke machine but of course they are not very good quality. That is why we want to record them on the computer. Thanks
Mae

ok ......you want to know what all you need to start recording at home....first things first...take this out of the songwriting forum and ask it in newbies. be sure to say what your budget is for this project, the specs of your computer and what equipment you have already....we'll explain the rest

I write Christian Songs

I just finished my first CD which contains all original Christian music recorded at my home studio. If anyone would mind taking the time to go to my site and listen to sound clips and give me feedback I would greatly appreciate it. Not just about the songs but about the mixes, etc. This forum has been a great thing for me and I have appreciated the wisdom of all you recording gurus who have helped me out over the years. Thanks so much!!!!!

Christian songs

Writing contemporary Christian music is easy, Just write a pop song and then go back and every place you said "baby", replace it with "Jesus".

I am a Christian who writes songs. I'm just writing; if my faith pokes through, fine. I'm just trying to be real.

Yes some more interesting discussions might be if we have any:

1. Buddhist Songwriters
2. Agnostic Songwriters
3. Muslim Songwriters
4. Jewish Songwriters
5. Aethiest Songwriters
6. Hindu Songwriters
7. Seikh Songwriters
8. Catholic Songwriters

I'm being sarcastic of course, trust a f*cking Christian to want to bring religion into the forum! My point being, we never have people from other religions other trying to start discussion. It's always the bastard christians. F*ck you!

You didn't take your "chill pill" today did you? Lighten up...it's not gonna hurt anything if we Christians discuss writing Christian music...is it now?

wow

I just read more of this thread. I gotta say, there were some heavy hitters. It's sad that there are so many people today who are resentful of Christianity. Christians have brought some of it on themselves by being too judgmental and critical. There is a little Pharisee in all of us. This kind of hatred is just as wrong as hating someone because of the color of their skin. Religious bigotry is just as evil as racial bigotry. All some people had to see was the word Christian in the original post and it stirred up their religious bigotry. Jesus said, "If they hated me, they will hate you also." C'mon guys, its not right to criticize people of faith, people who go to church and those who believe the Bible just because you don't see things like them. It's not right for people of faith, people who go to church and those who believe the Bible to be religious bigots either. This is the United States of America. We have freedom to express our values and faith. Christianity is not going away. It's not just something we do, it is who we are. In the words of one songwriter, "you can say there ain't no heaven and you can pray there ain't no hell". We do have a tendency to take it personally when someone slams our faith because they aren't just slamming something we do, they are slamming who we are.

I have written a few christian (gospel) songs. There are alot of people that think they are real good. What amazes me, more than atheists bashing christian songwriters and music, is christians that bash a christian musician for doing some secular music. To me, its OK for a songwriter to do both. Music is art, and a song tells a story....thats it. In christian society there is nothing wrong with an author that writes a book that is not a christian work....but a christian songwriter that writes a "secular" song kind of gets "blackballed" for straying away from the fold, so to speak. And even more amazing than that, is when a "star" that made it in secular music cuts a gospel song, the same christian "blackballers" fall all over their selves to pat the "star" on the back, because he is praising Jesus. Im not judging them, I just think its all very strange.

Case in point: Amy Grant kind of got blackballed and critisized for going to pop music and Johnny Cash was embracedby christian society for cutting some gospel songs. (just the first 2 people that pop into my mind.)

As far as the atheists in this BBS that despise christian lyrics and songs, and are VERY vocal about it...that comes with the territory of being a christian songwriter. Jesus said that you (christians) will be hated by the world, because you are not of this world.

Gidge, I didn't know you wrote gospel songs (I thought you sold Yamaha guitars LOL)....your lyrics are really good. Alot of the lyrics in this thread are very powerful....good thread!
