yea.....
you know, every week I need to choose songs to sing with congregation and if I tryed to base my selection on the opinions of hundreds of people that felowship here I would go nuts...

So my take on it (not that I'm completely insensitive to peoples opinion) is that somehow I was put in charge of this aspect of the ministry so I pick the songs ... do I do it well...??? aaah... don't know.... but then alot of times as we sing and the meening of the songs lins up together and they line up with the pastors message ... well i feel it wasn't me that picked the songs...

I don't want to claim direct link to God you know, just trying to make some kind of point here .... :)

I think there is point here somewhere.... :D
I know I am getting closer... :)

Flapo1;

Thanks for the comment, but then even a blind hog finds an acorn every now and then. :)

Fed;

Of course you have a direct link to God, if you are a child of God. If your ministrty is to pick the songs that the people will glorify God in, then there is no doubt in my mind that He can cause you to pick the songs that will affirm the message.

I don't do anything by what the majority's sway is in this forum. And you are right in not doing so yourself. And if we are still talking about musical styles, then you must follow what you are led to do by God, not man. God knows what you and I need. The vast styles of music is a wonderful thing. It is highly possible that you and I may not care for the same style of music. But the beauty of it is that we can both hear the same message on a format that gets our individual attention. And in the end its not the christian music that changes our lives its the truth of God in the message. The music merely holds our attention.

I appreciate your thoughts Fed. Blessings.

Yeah, I got a little excited. Being Judgemental is not my bag, I am just passionate to see people reached. When things seem so status quo, it is frustrating.

Prayin' for a breakthrough!

George, it's good to have you here.... :)
Yes of course there is direct link to God... if you are a beliver His spirit is inside, it doesn't get any closer then that...

I'm just little cerifull to say so myself and would rather "the fruit" be the meassure (if there is anything to meassure :) ) of whether what I do or think is directed/inspired by God, you know what I mean...

Anyway thanks for the dialog, it's hard to put these things in the words sometimes, because there is a fine balance with things spiritual and things can get missinterpreted or taken out of context easily. You seem to be able to make good precise points without anyway for missinterpretaion.

"And in the end its not the christian music that changes our lives its the truth of God in the message. The music merely holds our attention. "

I'm gonna quote that one sometimes if you don't mind, that's a pretty good one. :)

Yes it is good to converse on the things of God and how they relate to the things that stir us. In this case, our love for music.

Nice talking with you Fed, you to Robert.

Fed, George,

Are you both worship leaders?

If so, what churches, where, style of music?

Just curious.

Robert

Robert,
yes I'm a worship leader here at local Calvary Chapel church.
The styles vary but it's mainly Maranatha/Vineyard type stuff, though we play any type songs that we feel would be good to sing with the congregation, i.e some Third Day, MercyMe etc.

Hey, don't leave me out! :)

I am in the worship band in my church over here in Mexico. We play kind of pop music, music by (I guess you've never heard of them) Marcos Witt, Danilo Montero, Jesús Adrián Romero, etc.

I really enjoy it and am honored that the Lord has put me in there. When I first started in the group my thoughts were "Poor guys have no guitar I'm gonna help them out" WRONG!!!!!!! Being in that ministry has given me a whole new vision of my life and my relationship with Christ has become greater than ever!

THANKS GOD YOUR MERCY IS BIGGER EVERY DAY!!!!

Now I am working in a project writing a "concept" christian album which of course I plan to produce myself, with the help of the Lord.

See ya!

i was lead guitar player in a "working" gospel band for a year... and i made it out alive!!!!!

:p

Cool guys!

Fed,
Have you ckecked out anything from the Worship Together label of the Hillsongs YOUTH band. I like them both a lot.

What city are you in?

Robert

Hey flapo1, good to hear you are serving the Lord with your talant. I thought I checked out your songs and liked the sound but I got to find'em again as I don't remeber now.

Robert,
I have not checked that band out but the label sounds familiar. i don't realy pay attention to the labels you know :) it's hard enough to keep up (and I don't :) ) with all the christian music out there. Usualy people recomend stuff, our pastor is a big audiophile (and great drummer) he recomends stuff too.
I'm in Rochester NY here is website of our church. http://www.koinoniafellowship.com

stop by if you in our parts... :)

and jeap ... what's up with you man... ?
your line there looked like a joke only wasn't funny... :D

cheers

Hi. Fed!

then go to "singles".
I can translate the songs whenever you want.

I'd say thanks God he is using me and in his mercy he looked down upon me! As I said befor I consider it an honor now, since He is the One who gave me the talents I have.

I didn't understand jeap's joke either! :p

church can be a very dangerous place...

i have seen greed lust violence underhanded dealings lying cheating and stealing. in church and on church related activities. i have heard of death and destruction in churches.

in my town at a church i went to a guy went to the house of his bible study leader and shot him in the head and killed him.

im not in a big hurry to go back to church! im not really scared but i dont need all the negative influence!

:)

Jeap,

I am so sorry. The world is a fallen wicked place and sometimes we, leaders, are as much in the world as those without God. Because of that, we hurt people, and worst...in your case.

I know what it is like to be discouraged and lose hope. In the church where I am, I consistently have been hurt, used, lied to and just plain mistreated. Also, I just found out this week that my soundtech's brother who is a christian, shot himself in the head and took his life. There are times when I have wanted nothing more than to be left alone. However, God spoke to my heart one day and told me that i was supposed to be there no matter how I felt.

Through my obedience, I allowed the Lord to surround me with some friends who have prayed me through many situations.

There is a reason to go. There is a part of your heart that needs to be around other Christians. Doing so brings you life and will bring you healing as it did and does for me.

Being a part of the church has power, the power to change peoples lives and affect the hearts of many. Our enemy wil do and try anything to "steal, kill, and destroy" in his efforts to divide us and seperate us. It is obvious that this has happened in your church as well as mine and many others I am sure.

Please, keep in mind that it is not God, just allowing these things to happen but an unruly adversary who will stop at nothing until we turn our backs on the one who loves us.

I pray and will pray for God's healing for you and for your church and that God will encourage you and fill you again with hope.

Keep your eyes on Jesus and no matter what happens, remember, He loves you and wants the best for you!

Your brother
robert

Hey guys,
Lets all post a prayer for our brother Jeap. I will start,

Lord,
I pray that You will, in your mercy, heal my brother's heart. I pray that will encourage him and empart Your joy to him. I pray that you will destroy the plans of the enemy to keep him from ministering with the gifts and calling you have placed in him. Lord, I ask you to move now and minister to Jeap and that you would raise him up to be a source of goodness to those around him, that he might be a light in the darkness around him.
Give him Your peace and strength I pray, amen.

God bless you, Jeap.

Jeap,

I am sorry to hear about your experiences. Those are bad things to endure anywhere and even more troubling at church.

The problem is these things happen anywhere and everywhere. If someone promised you that the Christian or church life would be nothing but roses they lied to you. Mabey if only perfect people were allowed to attend church these things would not happen...they would also be 100% empty- pastors included.

Church can be a dangerous place but so is going to work, driving a car or even walking around the block. I broke my neck in a car accident (fractured C-2 and C-3) and had to wear a brace with four screws drilled into my skull for two months but I still drive!

Only God is God.

Only He is perfect.

You can not put your absolute trust in any man or woman or organization made up of people...they will eventually disapoint you and hurt you at some point without even trying to.

God is still God.

God is still perfect.

For some reason He loves us anyway the way we are and reaches out to us everyday. No matter what anybody (Christian or not) does to you - it does not change who God is or His comittment to you.

I empathise with your exeriences and I truly wish they had not happened but you know what ?
That kind of stuff is going to happen again to both of us wether we go to church or not. Not seeking God or spending felllowship time with God's imperfect people will not shelter you from danger.

It only shelters you from the One who can give you strength to overcome and be healed of your hurts.

Think about that a minute....

Cutting yourself off from God and the church does not prevent any more harm but it does pevent you from getting healed.

Thats like me working in a hospital (wich I do) and someone else that works there trips me in the stairwell and I fall and break my leg. By your reasoning (and many others) I would crawl out of the hopital with my broken leg and refuse to get it x-rayed, set or put in a cast because I had been hurt in a hospital.

The only person I would be hurting is myself.

Unforgiveness only hurts yourself.

Good word Scooter B.

Jeap;

I did not come to God for many years. All I saw was the negative side of so-called Christians in the night clubs where I was playing. So I related all of the Body of Christ as the same. My reasoning was that I didn't want to become a Christian and go to church with a bunch of hypocrites.

Then an elderly lady that I knew told me, George, I know what your saying but always remember that if a hypocrite stands between you and God, then the hypocrite is closer to God than you are.

Ya know........................
I wish I had read more of this thread before I posted....
(see page 9)
Somehow I feel that a lot of you guys are limiting yourselves as writers by devoting all of your creative energy to one genre......

Albeit....you all seem to be devoted and sincere......

There is just so much more in the world of music for you to experience besides CCM and the like....ya know?

Oh well...
My 2 pieces of silver I suppose.......

Joe (aka joro)

joro,
would you point me to a subject matter or type of music that is not covered by some CC musician/group...

I agree there is alot out there but I don't think beeing a christian is limiting you in anyway. Ye I wouldn't sing about getting drunk or high and say it's good, I would sing about those things and say they are bad for you. basicaly expressing my view just like any other musician would do. And would have no problem singing as a rock, blues, ska, metal,pop...... or whatever style of music...

I hope I don't sound anoyed or anything because I'm not, the lack of emotion in this typing thin makes it very dificult ... :D

cheers

No...that was a good reply....but I should have been more specific in my last post......
not genre per-say (thank you for pointing that out) but, subject matter......lyrically.....

I suppose if I was a devoted Christian I would pretty much write in that vain.....but I am not.....

I wrote a song once that is always being confused with being a "Gospel/Christian" Folk song.......
But, if you listen closely......to the lyric......you can tell that it is about life......not religion.....it is a song about life.....

I suppose the door swings both ways....ya know?

It's called "Tunnel of Light".....good tunage... ...if your interested....ya know?

Take good care all and be well...
Joe (aka joro)
