Hello guys,

This is my first post and I have looked to make sure im not asking the same question thats been asked over and over again. I sing and play guitar but unfortunately dont have a drum kit. I have looked into and use several different drum programs but they just dont have anywhere close to the feel of a real drummer. (I currently use fruity loops and hotstepper)

Is there a program out there that will let you drum live instead of laying down a ton of steps sequentially? Im thinking something like keyboard drumming but without the keyboard. If its crazy just let me know, but I would think that there is SOMETHING out there that will let me do it with my regular computer keyboard or something. thank you guys for your time.

Try using EZdrummer or Superior 2.0 from ToonTrack. They are real drums recorded and is easy to use. You can use it with your recording software and you can also edit some of the drum parts. Check it out.

You might want to post this question on one of the other forums. Most (with some exceptions) here on this forum really like recording drum tracks, from really playing drums, and recording them. Also, according to the last survey here, the majority of folks here prefer acoustic drums.
I'm not coming down on you about this at all, I'm just suggesting that you might have more success on one of the other forums here on HR besides Drums and Percussion.

I'll second both replies here.

I've used both progs coolsoundman suggests, and they're very easy to manipulate both with a midi controller/e-drum kit.

Rimshot is also right however...more suggestions can probably be found in the "computer recording and soundcards" forum.

BTW...rimshot:
I saw your stuff in the thread about posting drum clips. Didn't reply there, but very cool stuff man!

Also check out addictive drums. they even have a downloadable demo with a kick, snare and hats. Really good program for programin drums

There are several drum pad "controllers" that can be used to play drum patterns with hands or with sticks. These transmit MIDI performance data which can then be used to "trigger" drum modules or smapled drum sounds.

Roland and Yamaha are two of the companies that sell drum controllers. You can also purchase an entire electronic drum kit (which cost from about $700 up to $4,000).

Keep in mind, if you are not a drummer - your "performance" may not be any better of more "realistic" that EZ Drummer, Drums From Hell, Addictive Drums or any of the other software programs.
