does anyone know what Emergenza is?

If you mean it's bunk as in you won't actually get to play some where then you are wrong. I played at one of the first round show things.
I was sitting in on bass with these guys who entered the contest. I got a few sets of Ernie Ball strings out of it.
But yeah, it is sort of a scam because you have to pay them($75?) to enter thier contest.

ha! really? $75 to play? we looked into this briefly, and bailed when it seemed like WAY more trouble that it was worth.

This freak from Emergenza kept calling our drummer after he inquired about the show, and we said no...that put up red flags all over the place. we also thought about it and realized that it basically comes down to who brings in the most and loudest people/fans (who each pay a fat cover), and you'll be slapped in there with the broadest music sound possible. For example, the roster was like heavy metal, and a smattering of acoustic rock and some singer songwriters. That shit sounds WAY too awkward.

Exactly, Typical Battle of the Bands bullsh#t Popularity contests. We only enter Battle of the Bands where we can bring in pick axes and guns!! We've played shows for free, charity and benefit shows, but pay to play F-that! Plus we are the laziest band in North America, and wouldn't sell any pre tickets, and we have no friends.

Oh good. I guess my band is only the 2nd laziest band. :D

I'm not sure but isn't it recommended that you get a prevention shot every year?

;)

Ok if you don't actually work to promote than you really don't understand what its like to be in the world of undiscovered bands and shouldn't talk for this festival. My band just participated in the festival. Its true that the first round is a popularity contest, so the first round takes work, but by the second round its proffesionally judged and the amount of fans you bring really doesn't matter, but you should bring them anyway. Its actually a great way of exposure if you aren't a lazy bastard... just kidding. But this buisness does take work, and if you are gonna take it seriously you have to work, there is no way around it.

About the fee to get in. I was thrown off at first by that, but then they gave me a remo powerdot head (I believe) and a pair of drumsticks, plus 5 string set of bass strings and guitar strings. That almost pays off the fee in the first place, though I'd rather have the money, I'd trade the money for a show at the Middle East (one of the most respected well known clubs in boston). Plus once you play there you can show other clubs that you have, and you can play there again for a better show. I don't think its a rip at all.

So, EmergencyExit...how far did you get? Are you guys out or still kickin'?

We already regularly play the club in San Francisco that they were doing the show(s), and make a some solid dough doing so. It's a killer club with a killer sound system, but paying to play intermixed with a bunch of speed metal bands?! um...no thanks. We also figured we're not your typical "Hard Rock" band that is played on so many stations, we're more of a niche market, so it just didn't make sense for us.

I know of another band along the same type of sound as us (kind of an acoustic/surf/reggae) who seemed pretty pissed that they bothered doing it, and that's how we felt, and we didn't even play it. And trust me, we aren't lazy when it comes to promotion. it just didn't seem like the right match for us. It'd probably cater better to you're "Pearl Jam" knock offs of knock offs of knock offs(my little joke of what all the current "hard rock" stations play around here).

Just my two cents

Excuse me, don't understand what it is like in the world of undiscovered bands? I've been in undiscovered bands for 17 or so years. We've had a good share of shows in the band I'm in now. I say we are lazy because we are not willing to blow the promoters in our town. We would much rather tour, write, record and have fun on our own schedule. I'm not talking for this festival, I'm talking about your typical Battle of the Bands thing.

And anyhow, your post pretty much sums up why I think it is bunk, so I'll leave you to talk for the "festival" you seem to be doing a good job (aren't festivals supposed to be a collection of bands all focosing energy in one direction and unity, not some "battle?).

I know you

We've played in Battle of the Bands before, and we hate the hostile vibe.

Why is the first round the popularity contest anyhow, oh wait I know, 'cause they would actually need to do there own promotion and advertising.

emergencyexit, I know you meant no offence by your post, and neither do I. I was just asking the question, and after I asked I did a google search and found many negative reports of emergenza
