I've been thinking about buying an Ibanez Tube Screamer reissue. What kind of sounds can you get out of 'em, and are they worht the money? Anybody know?

The tube screamer was designed when amps (marshalls) didn't have quite enough gain (without turning them all the way up). So the Tube screamer and also the Boss overdrive were meant to give you the extra boost (by adding gain and a little distortion) to get you over the hump. This isn't a pedal that will turn a clean amp into a big distortion-fest but it will turn an overdriven amp into something you could solo with.

It should also be mentioned that alone in a clean channel it can produce some decent, fuzz-like sounds. Personally, I never liked them much, but if you're looking to do what Far mentioned, then it's worth a look.

Nothing that hasn't been said 100,000 times before. Really.

Here's a good page to get some good basic information.

Does anyone have anything to say about a Tube Screamer!!?? YOu might as well have title your post: "Oxygen... pros and cons."

Do a search on this site and then a Google search. You will have more info on the Tube Screamer than you can digest in a week.

Disregard.

I'm sorry I asked such a stupid question. Please disregard.

haha. not a stupic question. you just should have searched first.

i have a tube screamer. it doesn't work like it's supposed to because it has the wrong gain pot in it, but i still like it.

Has anyone used a tubescreamer with digital amps? How was the outcome?
Thanks.
