A friend of mine had a Peavey amp once. It's true that they are bulletproof but so are boat anchors. Years after upgrading to a Marshall his wife made him clean up the basement and get rid of his old garbage. One of the first things to go was the Peavey.

He watched in amusement when the garbage truck pulled up next to the driveway. The guy got out and had long black hair.. kinda like a rock n roller. He saw the amp, picked it up and slammed it against the truck about 10 times laughing his ass off. Then he threw the amp in the back and pulled that handle that compresses the garbage.

My friend watched out the window in horror as the garbage truck literally compressed and smashed the Peavey amp to pieces. The garbageman laughed hysterically jammin on the compact handle with one hand, flipping off the amp with the other. When he was finished a bottle of whiskey fell out of his coveralls as he climbed back into the truck.

City workers, you can't live with em.. you can't live without em.

Depending on the music, a Marshall isn't necessarily an upgrade.

I bought a Peavey Triple XXX EFX 40 watt tube combo when Musician's Friend was blowing them out. It's a great amp. Now, I like hard rock and metal tones, so when I say "great", I mean for the type of music I like to play. It has major gain and I get a great tone from it, at least to my ear. I actually like some of their newer amps, and I never really cared for Peavey. The key to buying ANY tube amp is to make sure you get the one for the style of music you play. You won't want a 5150 if you play blues, you won't want a Fender if you play metal.
