does any body know how to make a pop filter windscreen for a condenser mic? i run an AT4040, it sounds great but i need a filter for vocal work with it. does any one know how to make one cheap ? out of things that would be laying around the house thanks for any help. i am on a low budget

Make a wire hoop out of a coat hanger, cover it with a light fabric, pantyhose works well, easy too, just slip it on, then attach it to the mic stand by twisting the wire or with duct tape.

I've done it and it works pretty good. Get a real pop filter if you can tho.

you should be able to get a "real one" for about $20 with a gooseneck.

I made one with the embroidery hoop/nylon stocking thing but I don't use it very often. With the mic positioning that I am using and even moderately good mic technique I don't pop.

well i made my own pop filter frame out of an embriodery hoop and copper wire.
i made an eye on one end of the wire and put that through that little gap in the hoop where the screw goes, then i bent it so it sets up in front of the mic then i bent it around the mic stand it works great! the filter i made out of ground cloth to keep the weeds out of your garden it was like less than $3 for the whole thing to make! pretty cool and i can bend the copper to fit what i am doing like a goossneck
thanks for all the input guys

wish i could get a picture of it on here.

you can also place a pencil, upright, in front of the singer and the capsule...and have the singer sing directly at the pencil. This way the wind gets dispersed instead of going into the mic.

You're using a pretty decent mic. Why not splurge and spend $20 for a decent pop filter?

im all for short cuttin cuz money is harda to come by than heat in a volcano (yeah that makes no sense!!!)

but i copped me a good pop filter from the music store n i saw a big difference . . . $20 aint gon make or break ANY budget!!!

I am very happy with my new filter, it is working great I made two of them one big and one small its just as good as the ones that are in stores! I think that the wead cloth worked out great. I have the right blocking without a muffled sound and I can change it out once in a blue moon :D

as to why i have not gotten a $20 filter I SPENT ALL MY MONEY ON THE MIC!

my first one was a roll of cellotape, big roll 6" in diamiter shoved in some womens stockings...the toe and knotted. Shoved it in a mic clip on a stand and positioned in front of the mic I was singing into.

Verdict: I grew a foot fettish
