do you think the preamps on the presonus inspire are good enough for...

... me to upgrade from an AT2050 to either an at4040 or at4033? i'm thinking about a 4040 or 4033 but i'm not sure the preamps are up to spec enough on the inspire for it to even matter without upgrading that first. i don't know anything about preamps, honestly, just know you get what you pay for. i don't really know how to use them, but i think if i do get one i can still use the inspire as an interface, i just have to hook the pre up to the rca line ins on the inspire instead of the normal mic inputs.

anyways... help? thanks

The Inspire has built in preamps which you operate via the virtual console as opposed to the hardware.
There is no reason, other than your personal preference, for the Inspire not to work well enough.
I'd upgrade my mics as you suggested and if I didn't like the sound, upgrade my interface.
Working with extra preamps is just as expensive and a little more tricky.
I'm using the Inspire as a soundcard on one of my spare PCs and an Echo Mona (PCI) on the main PC.
I'm not in any hurry to get rid of the Presonus. It's a good unit.
