record synth like sounds with your keyboard if you have a synthesizer software on your computer? For ex. can i record horn sounds as audio on a sequencer? what are the benefits of midi then if a program like melodyne studio comes out that can alter AUDIO just like midi can?

what are the benefits of midi ?

play things slow, speed them up
quantize (correct rhythms)
change notes
change patches
on and on and on.

At this point, midi is way more powerful than audio for manipulating and editing.
