How is your EQ on your analogue mixers set for the channels on your soundcards Outputs?

Out of interest, when casually listening to material other than your own (Commercial CD's etc), Is the EQ flat or do you tweak it?

After a debate, it was suggested that the EQ for soundcard playback be left as flat no matter the weather thus to help train the ear.

Personally, I usually do a bit of both (Suttle)...I just never looked at it like that before

From what I know...you want to go with monitors that will give you the flatest sound so you can adjust to even the worst of coniditions and find a good medium. By the way...as my signature says...have any good suggestions for home studio monitors (powered or passive...just looking now)?

There are soundcards with EQ adjustments?

I would assume that we're talking on-board or SB type stuff -

Even if we're not, throwing ANY digital EQ (especially a bad one) in monitoring your chain would be a less-than-wonderful idea IMHO... If it seems to be neccessary, there's probably something else that needs to be corrected (the interface, monitoring, amplifier, room, room treatments, etc.).

Flat, I don't even have the daw coming into the board through channels. There are too many ways for channels to not be equal to each other.

I was reffering to the EQ on the desk. (Left & Right channel)

Ah - Gotcha. ;)

Same thing though - Flat unless there's a very specific reason (preferably explained by Ethan W.) for it.

It varies...

When it comes to EQ, I think people have misguided ideas on how to use them. Generally, you have to consider and compensate for the EQ response in the equipment to be used. On top of that, the EQ response of the room. You get that with an RTA kit.

When dealing with a graphic EQ, it really acts as a tuner for all these inconsistancies.

You want your sound to be flat, so that might mean the EQ needs adjusting. Generally though...flat EQ all the way around.

From what I understand, EQ'ing your output to the monitors is a HORRIBLE idea, especially if your room sounds bad. By making it sound good in one spot, it will sound even worse in other spots, and that is not what you want. No one sits perfectly still, and even by moving your head, there is the possibility that you may enter a bad spot, and the mixes could really suck because of that.

Just my 2 cents.
