i was wondering if anyone makes a headphone amp/studio power amp. something that would have the capabilities to drive a few headphones and also power a set of studio moniters, that way you could switch between the two easily. how does the average persons accomplish this.
my situation is; mackie 1604 -->delta 1010lt-->sonar xl. i don't need anything fanct and of course $ is a consideration.

You wouldn't want to drive headphones with the same amp that you'll be running your monitors with. It will blow the phones. Samson makes a control center, which takes your sound, has a few powered headphone outputs, and a passive monitor output. It can be switched w/ a switch to run the phones or monitors, but you will still need a power amp to drive your monitors if they're not already powered. It's called Samson C-Control Room Matrix.

Nonsense, GABritton. I have a Bryston speaker switch box that has 3 set of passive monitors hooked up to it (RS Minimus 7's, Yamaha NS-10's and JBL 4725's). It also has a headphone jack which I use frequently. The switch box itself is connected to a Crown Power-Base 1 amp.

I'm sure it works Mad, but you have to have some type of power attenuator or pass-through in the switch box....

You can't plug headphones to the outputs of a 500watt power amp and expect your phones to live through it. That's what I was telling him.

That's why I suggested the control room box.

True. I'm using the headphone out of my Mackie 1604 to the input of the Crown, and use the headphone fader to attenuate the signal.
