Do I NEED a Les Paul?

You want it, you don't need it, it's cheap, it's available, you have the money, you can arrange for express post via the Post Office in a hard case or better. It's not stolen & is in excellent condition. Don't scratch your head or the plate. Buy it & if you don't like the sound/feel/vibe sit on it for 2 years and make money.

Just a quick update, here. I finally got my means, and yesterday I ordered a Gibson Les Paul Faded Double Cutaway in Worn Cherry. Granted I probably "don't need" it, but...well...I suffer from G.A.S.

Sorry 'bout the PM box.......'tis now OK .

Re transport.........It may be too large for Aust., Post's systems so I'd stick to one of the major courier companies, eg: Aust. Air Express........make sure it is FULLY insured. Apart from that I can't say much as most of my shipping experience has been importing from o/seas.

Re the Studio Plus..........I took it off the open market about 12 months ago, I got sick of having it in a store where no-one looked after it and with two local Gibson price drops since we imported those guitars, it would be better to sell it privately should a buyer wander along but if it doesn't sell then long term, it's probably like money in the bank.

I remember seeing an LP in a pic that I liked (don't think it was a Studio, though) and being told it was a Desert Burst.

I'm just curious.

The thing that keeps me from getting one like Unsprung ordered is I don't like the 'unfinished' finish.

I like satin finishes just fine, but that one is almost like raw wood that hasn't even been sanded smooth. You can feel the grain, almost to the point where you feel like you might get a splinter. That's too bad, because other than that I love that guitar, and it's affordable, too.

Studio Plus Desertburst. The "Plus" was the top of the Studio range with Maple cap and gold hardware, etc. Also, they weren't that much cheaper than a "Standard".

Don't suppose you've got a pic from sort of a slightly top angle, so that you can see the top and the side at the same time?

The thing I don't like about Studios is the lack of top binding, but I could be changing my mind. Maybe I just haven't seen the right one yet.

And how much would that be in $US, roughly? Not trying to negotiate, I just want an idea of what your asking.

Actually, I had a Studio, but it was before they were called Studios. I got it in a trade for my Acoustic amp & cab (sorry Harvey). I hated it. Of course the fact that it was solid fire engine red didn't help. I hate red guitars. Don't know why, I just do. I think I let it go for about $300 or so. I needed the cash bad. Thanks for screwing me on that one, Beeson. One in a long line. Thank you sir, may I have another?

We bought a bunch of near new Gibsons in from Canada a couple of years ago, (actually, from the Free Adds section here), so my asking price has to cover shipping and import duties. This wasn't a problem at the time (we sold a number of the guitars) but with the local distributor dropping prices and the $ exchange rate slowly evening the US-AU dollars out, it is probable that we'll end up keeping the Studio, but to answer your question, I need to get approx., $2000US.

Anyways, I took a few pics earlier as most of our guitars are out ready to grab while we're tracking. Also, you really need to play as many LP's as you can to find the right one, we have 6 (3 Stds, 2 Elegance and the Studio) and each one is subtley different to another.

Hey......I will never buy any guitar unless I play it 1st. I have a LP standard with the slim 60's neck. It plays wonderful. If the neck is a big wide one you might not like the feel at all. Yes that PRS is great too. I also have one of them and it has a feel the LP does not have. I feel very luck to have some good name guitars including a Parker and a Tele. But different guitars just have that thing about them that each one does something the others don't. But I always put it in my hand and play it before making it my own. It seems to work better for me. The old saying you try on a pair of shoes before you buy them makes for a happy camper. Just my views here.

Coincidentally my girlfriend is flying up on business next week so I'm tasking her with Les Paul retrieval as well...

To answer you point Choctaw, I have actually played it.. some years ago when I was up staying at my friend's place. I seem to recall it was pretty nice.

The bottom line is that if I don't like it, I'll have little trouble getting rid of it for probably 50% more than I paid for it..

In which case I guess I'd probably feel the need to split the largesse with my friend... but I don't think that's gonna be happening somehow..

Woo hoo... I can finally say I own 10 guitars, instead of "I own 10 guitars, but one of them's actually a bass...."
