i have a dmp3 coming this thursday and i was wondering if it's possible to use the 2 channels with one mic that requires phantom power and one that doesn't. i own the SP B1 and E6909.

generally.....

phantom power shouldn't hurt a decent quality dynamic mic. might want to check the manual to be sure, but it's probably safe

no you can't, but dynamics will just ignore the 48V. This is actually the reason people called it phantom power. Just make sure you aren't using a ribbon mic with it!

I own two ribbon mic's.
Theyre both A-ok to have phantom power on.
Not that you have a ribbon, but if you get one read the manual very closely before running ANY power to it. ;)

whoa...which ribbon mics are those finster?

---edit---
oh wait, must be a newer one. forgot that they're starting to protect from that sort of thing now-adays. but yeah, just read your manual before sending 48V to it.

royer ribbon r-121.
And a royer ribbon r-122,(wich actually requires phantom power).

indeed.
The sound it gets is even MORE interesting. (drools)

Good question

Good question!

I just ordered a DMP3, an SM57 and an MXL990 and was wondering the same thing.

Right now I am using a couple of really, really, reeeeally cheap 80hz-12khz mics straight into my Gina and was hoping this new gear would liven up my sound.

Guess I'll find out Tuesday when they get here. Woohoo!

somebody responded to me in another thread titled e609 and phantom power. hope this helps:

If you have a proper balanced cable I shouldn't think there'd be any problem, see here:
http://www.sounddevices.com/tech/phantom.htm

'Because phantom voltage is exactly the same on pin-2 and pin-3 with respect to pin-1, phantom power has no effect on balanced, dynamic microphones. A properly connected balanced, dynamic microphone will operate with or without phantom present. With ribbon microphones turning phantom power off is recommended.'
