I'm looking for a clean / uncoloured preamp to go with my Focusrite ISA One. After a very quick test with the ISA One I was really impressed at how much quieter it was than my Tampa. I've not been able to do any further testing as my computer has gone down

I currently have a DMP3 which is considered very clean with low noise.

How does the DMP3 compare to something like the Audient Mico, True Systems P-Solo or Grace M101?

I noticed that the P-Solo and Grace M101 are both using Burr Brown opamps like the DMP3.

I've been offered a True Systems P-Solo for just over £200 and am wondering if it would be worth me selling my Tampa and DMP3 to get it?

I have a preference for the P-Solo... It - uh... "really lets the mic come through" (for lack of a better phrase).

Didnt you have a Yamaha MLA7...its as clean as any of those pres listed...and if you dont have one...you can steal one off ebay when they sell them.

I noticed that the P-Solo

I am just starting work on some testing for an episode of "Ronan's Recording Show" where I hunt for the best sub $500USD mic pre

I have just started testing the True Systems, and early results are positive. I have not A-B'ed it to the Grace, but from memory I prefer the P-Solo.

I would say that the P-Solo is a great step up in quality from the DPM3, but the price difference is pretty steep as well.

However, your connection sounds like a great deal. Would the seller let you try it out before buying it?

I've been reading various reviews the True Systems P-Solo and it looks to be a bargain on the secondhand market. It's practically half the price of a secondhand Grace M101.

I like the look of the Audient Mico's features and it certainly has loads for the money!

Has anyone had any experience with the Audient and True or Grace?

Not sure if I could justify spending the extra money if the True P-Solo is top notch.

Personally I'd jump for the p solo and call it a day. And there aren't many people with opinions on the mico, let it go. Its like that for a reason. I think you get more from other pres for the prices.

At the end of the day I'd be VERY happy with either the P-Solo or Grace.

It seems that most people who have compared the P-Solo to the Grace compared it to the older 101 model. The new M101 is meant to be a better preamp.

I like the M101 for the extra gain, rackmountable, impedance switch.

I like the P-Solo for it's similar performance at a lower price.

I wish the P-Solo was rackmountable and had more gain but like I said I'd be very happy with either of these!

Sorry to resurrect this thread!

I'm still pretty interested in the Audient Mico. I was speaking to a well respected reviewer and he says it's on par with the DAV BG1.

His impressions were that they are both very clean pres but the DAV sounds a little bigger but is noisier. I also spoke to someone who owns both the Mico and BG1 and he recommended the Mico!

The Mico has a lot more features than the DAV, P-Solo and Grace but is quite a bit cheaper. To buy either the DAV in the UK the price is £485, the Grace is £565, P-solo is £579 and the Mico is £339.

If the Mico is in the same league but with the extra features it would have to be a total bargain!!

Any Audient Mico users on here???

Wow I hadn't heard this before. I thought the MLA8 had the good pres in it? The MLA7 pres are ok but I would prefer a few extra features such as HP filter because not all my mics have this and is handy on certain vocalists.

I am looking to use the new preamp for recording Acoustic/Electric guitars and Upright/Electric bass aswell as certain vocalists.

What I would like to achieve is to be able to record drums (TD20 + AD1.5 midi), piano (usb), upright or elec bass (ISA One DI), Vocals (ISA One pre) and either acousitc or electric guitar with the new pre/DI. The new pre would also be handy as a contrasting tone to the ISA One.

I think they are both the same price per channel...what kinda irks me about the units you used in your comparason is the fact that none of them were designed to go into a rack...so you end up with even more junk on your desk...my desk is full...lol.

.
Well...you wont have many vocalists walk in to your studio that you want to use a clean pre with...you really want these for micing instruments more than anything else.

Thanks for the reply.
What I would really like is to use the DI for guitars and maybe the preamp for brass or certain vocals.

I noticed that the Mico cost over $1000 originally and dropped to around $799. This is quite a bit more than the True Systems P-Solo $499 and Grace M101 $565.

Maybe this has something to do with why the True Systems and Grace pres are more talked about? Especially as there are SO many threads looking for pres under $500!?

In the UK the True Systems P-Solo costs £579, Grace M101 £565 and the Audient Mico £339!!

The Mico is two channels, the Grace and the Solo only one.

Still haven't bought a pre yet as I've just got the upgrade to Cubase 5.

What I would like to and up with is 3 channels of decent pres! The ISA has 2 ( one for XLR and one for DI ) and I would like a third channel.

I would like to be able to record vocals, electric/upright bass and electric/acoustic guitar.

I'm now considering the GAP PRE73 as I've read SO many glowing reviews!! Infact I don't think I've actually seen a bad review on it!

I can pick up a brand new one of these for £219!!

I am very tempted by one of these.

GAP PRE73, True Systems P-Solo or Audient Mico??

One colored channel? - Gap Pre 73
One very clean channel? - P-Solo
Two clean channels with chance to tweak sound (tho' in different ways on each channel)? - Mico

Ideally I would quite like to have a PRE73 and a P-Solo but funds don't stretch to this as I'm spending quite a bit on acoustics and other various stuff.

At the moment I'm selling my Tampa and MLA and when I receive the funds I will probably get a secondhand P-Solo or PRE73 depending on what's around at the time.
