DMP3 and DIGITUBE

I know the DMP3 is a real favorite around here but I was wondering if anyone has compared the two side by side. I have a Digitube here now, but the DMP3 is blister packed so my local wasn't thrilled about me trying it for a day.

If they are both nice and clear for the same price range, would I be better off with a Digitube as an all round unit seeing it has some tube ability and the EQ?

The difference is $50.

I think the DIGITUBE Is a good box. Love the S/PDIF out and sweepable EQ. Doesn't sound bad to my (admittedly crummy ears)

Can't comment on the DMP3, but from what I've heard on this site -- people will almost overwhelmingly prefer that one. I _believe_ it is two channels (a plus). Of the two, I've only heard DIGITube, and I like it

Given that the quality is similar, that would be the trade off.

A second channel for a gain + drive controll and the EQ.

Well, here I go, shooting my mouth off about pre's I've never used. I won't compare them, but I do have one consideration.

Using EQ during tracking is an iffy thing, unless you really know exactly what you are going for and how to get it. Chances are, you'll end up EQing again to fix the errors you made. (Not that I've ever made a mistake! ) If thats the only EQ you have, OK. I just think its wiser to record flat and try to find the right mic positioning to get the sound you want. Its hard to envision what EQ cuts or boosts you will want when you get to the final mixing. Why EQ twice?

With that thought in mind, I'd prefer two channels of DMP3. I can trick out the signal later. Thats just another thing to look at before you make a decision.

That' a real good point. I would have to be really careful even to go back and change a line, so that I match the tone.

Oh, for sure. But maybe you're looking for a specific sound, and you're having difficulty using mic placement alone? I do like having options But sure, you can switch EQ off on the DIGITUBE.

I'd prefer two channels of DMP3. I can trick out the signal later. Thats just another thing to look at before you make a decision.

Does sound like a nice little box. Right after I purchase that API preamp with 4-channels of mic/line pre, I just may get a DMP3. Seriously. A new flavor to add.

Well, I returned the digitube. I really just wanted to try it out.

Taking into consideration some of the suggestions I came home with the Presonus BlueTube for a test drive. (Love that 30-day return policy)

The EQ on the Digitube is great, but for my purpose I would end up bypassing it all the time. My projects will always be evolving. So I’ll always be going back to rearrange harmonies and stuff. Keeping it flat like crawdad suggested will just make life easier.

The Digital out would be awesome if I just had a Digital in somewhere.

Take away the EQ and the digital out. Add a second channel and you've got the BlueTube.

I'm going to give it a fair shake. $139, Any suggestion on alternate tube makes. The tube option has some merit but I haven't tried the DMP3 yet.

This preamp daily test drive is a pain but I'm learning a lot and really trying to stay open minded.
