Trying to get Mackie HDR and DM-24 working over optical in/outs.
I want to control the Hard drive recorder from the mixer (DM-24).

I heard Wordclock is embedded in the optics.

What about timeclock?

What about Midi control?

Which device should be the master clock?

I think I need Optical for word clock.
Time Clock?????
Midi Control (RS422 maybe)?

Confused?

No need for wordclock connections, like you say those are integrated into the lightpipe.

MTC: Slave the dm-24 to the HDR MTC output via Midi connection from HDR out to DM-24 IN. There is also SMPTE timecode which is just another connection type, same HDR out to DM-24 IN, but on different ports.

MMC: Not sure on the specifics, but you should be able to setup a closed loop MMC connection between the two. DM-24 MIDI out to HDR IN, already have the return loop setup for MTC (if you choose to use MTC).

I'm not familiar with lightpipe "wordclock" enough to know which should master or slave, or if there is even a need for setting that up. My guess is that the DM-24 should slave to the HDR for this, though.

As you can see, I'm not totally familiar with the HDR so I'm speaking kind of generally. There are probably more efficient and correct setups that I don't know about.

Thanks

I think I got all that.

So for word optical light pipe.

For the DM-24 to control the HDR use Midi. The DM-24 has 3 options for this the RS422 port (which the HDR has), a din connector, and a 15 pin connector. Going to try the RS422 once I get an approved cable.

Timecode will be the SMTPE connector I guess.

If there is an RS422 port try that, will likely give you better control of the HDR than MIDI based MMC would. Sounds like you've got a handle on things. :) Let us know how the setup works for ya. I really liked the HDR, but I wanted an audio and midi setup integrated together and that lead me to the host based setup.
