DJ Speakers-Help Please

I poste the following below in the OTHER EQUIPMENT & REVIEWS section but the help i was getting wasnt of much use or at least the dude responding i wasnt understanding what he was tryin to get at but ne ways if u can help please do so.

I need some replacements that will work with my American Audio Amp(one below). I was using some Gemsound Speakers(ones belows) and i have blew them at least 3 times. Im not sure what the reason was. I did what i was told to do but shit it still went out on me. But anyways i talked to a guy at a music store since i dont know much about speakers and shit and he said Gemsound sucks and would never sell or recommend it. So i still have the Gemsound boxes they are just missing the 15'' subwoofer. So can u guys help me out cause i cant do any local parties cause i dont have any speakers to use. I know i can put another brand 15" sub in there but i need some that will work hand in hand with that amp so they dont get blowed or whatever.

In my experience it's much easier to blow speakers when you're underpowering them rather than overpowering them.

That amp you linked is only 200 watts at 8 ohms while the speakers are rated at 600 watts at 8 ohms. You're probably not hearing as much bass as you want to hear, and when you turn the bass up it blows the speaker because there's just not enough headroom to push it as much as you want to.

You can't expect cheaper gear to give professional results.

Either get some powered speakers or a better power amp/subwoofer set up.

And just because they didn't tell you what you were hoping to hear in your other post in 'Other Equipment...' doesn't mean they weren't understanding you. That Gem subwoofer is not worth fixing a fourth time and needs to be replaced as does your power amp.

Thanks for that info. No the dude who did respond he was confused about what i said. I posted here just to get more insight also. But thanks alot for your help. You really have broken it down for me. Thanks once again.

I also agree, underpowering a subwoofer can be dangerous, so is over powering them as well. Match yourself up a pair of subs with an amp that's capable of providing enough power. Look at the RMS ratings on both, and the ohms.

I also noticed in my time, that a bad box will very often blow out your speakers as well. One that has not enough air, with a large subwoofer, will force the woofer to push more than it can because of the air & well... you get the picture.

What scientist suggested is practical for your use, but I also recommend JBL subs (only because I love some of their woofers and they have done well for me both in live sound & car audio).
