I'm just wondering if this would be a worthwhile investment... has anyone done one of these? heard one of these?

edit: I mean the tube mic pre... heh

I'd look at the schematics and make sure they are a proper tube design, not solid state with a valve lobbed in their somewhere just so they can say it's tube gear. I'm not an electronics man so i can't help you there.

At the price I'd be wary of the quality of the components.

Cool T-shirt though :D.

The schematic shows +45V on the plate, which I believe puts it firmly in "tewb" territory. There are also a couple of 5532 opamps sprinkled in there. I don't know enough to calculate gain at the various stages, but typically in this sort of design it'd be 50/50 tube/opamp.

It is most definitely "tewb".

I built one a bunch of years ago. It went from dark to very dark. The tube section was essentially useless.
I have changed a lot since then, and would maybe find a good use for it now.

The experience was fun and I learned a few things. There are sites out there with mods that apparently improve the piece dramatically. If you go for it I would check the mods out.
