... BTW, who is in your avatar? Makes me think of Gerry Anderson.

I don't know what the deal with the eyebrows was.

I used a toilet flange on mine. Asthetics could use a version 2.0.

I can't help but ask....
I think you said you spent like $4000 on your preamp and comp...then probably about another $1500 for the U87...
...and you finish it off with a toilet flange and panty hose for your shockmount and pop filters…?
Interesting high-end/low-end dichotomy.
I think what’s missing is a piece of duct tape for the final touch.![]()

The U87 was $3,200 near 20 years ago, I'd want at least $5K for it. It's a Stephen Paul modded one, and still has the Record Plant NYC labels on it.
The toilet flange balances it out so I feel worthy of singing through it.![]()

$5k on top of the $4k!!!
So you have $9k worth of gear held in check by a toilet flange and some pantyhose!!!
Sorry....I can't help but chuckle at that.

I'd have shelled out the $30 for a shock mount. Actually, I've paid half that for shock mounts on eBay. There's some silver ones that are exactly the same as on the picture at the top of your site for $15.

I don't know, some times while I'm out in the shop I just like to make things.
It gives me a sense of wellness that I can only get from making something no matter how it turns out.
My me time is priceless ..... but I refuse to have TV or other idiotic control on me so I dream, build and create.

And it was really saving precious time in one's life to think it out then type on a computer how one would not 'waste one's time building something that was neither cheaper than nor = to or better than something that could be bought', then post it for the world to see on a thread started by someone who clearly enjoyed making something themselves and left clear instructions on how it was done, just in case someone did fancy making one !
There's alot to be said for democracy and free speech !![]()

and then common sense and logic can go out the window, and you end up spending a lot of time and effort just to save a few bucks (sometimes it even ends up costing you more to DIY).
)...we're just poking some fun at him)
