distortion- recording in stereo

Hi,

Am i right in that when recording a guitar in stereo, it is bad to have the two mics recording to two individual tracks? Has anyone gotten distortion from doing this?

There is no reason why recording to two tracks should cause distortion. What alternative are you considering? Stereo premix to one stereo track (or two mono tracks)? You can always mix your two mono tracks to stereo, but you can never get your original signals out of the stereo premix.
