Distortion in Final Mixdown

ok guys , i was recording with a cheap 10 dollars microphone in cool edit pro 2.0 and evryhting sounded perfect no problems at all,

i just bougth a m-audio nova condenser mic and when i record my vocals they sound distorted, when i mix my whole song down the vocals sounded dirtorted on some parts , hellp :(

my set up is as follow,

p3 computer
196 mb ram
m-audio omni studio desktop audio station
cool edit pro 2.0 for sequencer
m-audio nova condenser mic
oh and delta 66 sound card

what can i do to solve this problem?

It sounds as though you have your gain set too high on the vocal channel or that you are singing too loudly into the mic. Condensor mics are a lot more sensitive than cheapos. Try turning it down, and if that doesn't work, back away from the mic.
 
thanx , im gonna try it , and do u know why migth the vocals sound with to much bass , with the cheap 10 dollar mic i was using, it had a warm clear sound,with the noca mic the sound is more bassy
 
If you sing too close to the mic, you often get 'proximity effect', which boosts the bass. Like lpdeluxe said, back off from the mic, and you get less bottom end.
 
thanx , i wil try thati guess i gotta learn how to use teh condenser mic , how many inches away from the mic do you usually have to be so it will sound good
 
Your best bet is to try a few distances apart from the mic and listen back, then you will know. There are no rules, just general distances. Different microphones will have different proximity results. Remember that at times, you might want the proximity bassy effect, so you also need to where you should place for this.
