Here is a new song I just finished and the first one I've posted in a couple months. Its quite a departure from my last post - that math rock song (for this season). I've used some of my new mics I just got. Let me know what you think of the recording/song/mix....whatever. Make sure you listen through to the end (thats my favorite part).

This is my first attempt to use IUMA so let me know if there are problems. Thanks.

Ben

Hey Gnarled...

I checked out the tune.
It has a nice melody & I thought the song was constructed well, with a nice change in the middle.

My criticisms? The overly-distorted guitar that runs through the whole song I found to be distracting.
And anytime I hear good musicanship (Like this) buried in too much reverb, it takes something away.

What kind of mics did you useon vocals? It sounds like it was buried a bit too deep in the mi9x to hear the quality.

But it is a good song. Try a re-mix of it!

Thanks for the post Dougie. I'm not too happy with the guitar tone either (except for the very end). The guitar was actually sort of an experiment. I usually use my Rivera S120 and I get pretty good tone. But this time I tried using a solid state Fender combo my roomate has lying around. I miced it with a 57 up close and a Marshall MXL 603 about 2 feet away and covered the whole thing with a couple rugs. Needless to say the results weren't spectacular - it has a lot of air, but no bite. So overdubbed the final part using my trusty setup and it sounded pretty good.

The vocals were recorded using my AT 4033 through a Behringer MIC2200 preamp (for both). I didn't think it was too buried, but then again, I don't like hearing my own voice very much either. I did have to cut a couple dBs around 2K and 4K (i think) cause there was some brittle sibilance. Maybe thats why it doesn't cut like it should.

Anyhow, thanks for the listen and the criticism. Keep it coming!

Anyone else???

Hi gnarled ....

I listened to your song ...

and all that was already said plus ... Maybe you can step up the tempo on this just a hair .. it seems to drag a little ...

I love the lyrics ... Lana

Thanks for the comments Lana. Yeah, the tempo needs to be more dynamic I think. I just threw down a quick click track and played along with it, but the tempo really could be faster in parts. Thanks.

Come on!

Well, I didn't really get all the input I though I would. I know you guys can do better! Anyway, just in case it was a problem with downloading it, its now up at mp3.com for your listening pleasure. Thanks.

THe song has a good melody. THe tempo made me uncomfortable cos I was constantly expecting it to get faster.

I like the general sound of the vocal. I think the effect was too much though.

I liked the ending part. I started to really dig the sound of the guitars. pretty cool.
