I changed my device in cubase in audio system setup to Asio direct full duplex driver,i used to use Asio 2.0 -(soundcard).

The latency improvement is staggering i cant notice any at all!!
Im really loving it but sometimes when i peform an export (mixdown) i'll hear a pop (when the progress bar is going) and then i cant get any sound anywhere, i have to restart. Why??

What is the difference anyhow between Direct X and Asio 2.0??

directx= (developed by microsoft) chucks of code written into ms operating systems that mysteriously allows other software developers to write programs that can enable certain "advanced" features of various hardware devices...the advantage, accoding to ms, is that the programs themselves don't need specific code for each and every "advanced" feature on each and every peice of fanciful hardware--i.e. graphics accelerators and various multi-media devices...go to www.microsoft.com/directx

So should i enable this as my device?? or should i use my soundcard as the device?

directX is "driver-software"...it is either part of your os or it is not--depending on which os you have and how old it is...do a search for DxDiag and then, if you find it, click on it...then clk on the System tab...here you will see which version of directX is currently a part of your ms operating system...if your version is not the latest/greatest from ms, it may be a good thing to visit www.microsoft.com/directX and download it...read carefully before downloading and installing any new drivers...if directX is not already a part of your system, your system probably won't be able to use it--but check with microsoft...

Yes thanks tyol... i have the latest direct x release and i can use it i have a choice in my audio/ system /Asio device, 3 Actually:

Asio 2.0 Waveterminal
Asio Direct X Full duplex
Asio Multimedia Driver

Which one??????

Direct X seems to peform better but like i said during some operations it will kill all sound.

i checked all my direct x settings in dxdiag everthing is ok,in my asio settup options though i have a choice of an emulated version of my souncard (looks like:Wavterminal (D) ) does the (D) stand for direct x???

Ahhhh dont know!!!!

...the directX Full-Duplex option is probably your best choice...if you still occasionally "lose sound", try going to Options, then Audio sys set-up, and simply clk on Full-Duplex again, and see if the sound comes back...you shouldn't have to keep restarting...if the need to restart is frequent, there must be some other problem going on...
