Can any user of this product write about the soundcard's
quality, sturdiness, problems ? etc..

Thanks

I finally got a chance to do some recording; compared to the SB I was using before, it is great. The preamps and DA converters are very quiet, noise from the unit itself doesn't become apparent until the gain is set to the 52 to 75 db range, which is quite alot of amplification.

A couple things that get to me: the eqs and the compressors are only available on the input tracks, making it rather difficult to add them to already recorded tracks. You can get around this, by looping the digital i/o, but that can be (and is) a pain. Also, none of the dsp effects are available in 96khz sampling mode.

The ability to make presets is useful, they are available for every component, as well as globally... too bad there aren't any factory presets.

One thing I like on the control panel: on the inputs, it gives the exact decibel level of the peak, this is useful for setting the compressor.

As for sturdiness, the pci card is nice and solid, and it's the heaviest pci card that I've ever seen, due to the shielding. The break-out box, about 8.5 inches deep by 6.5 across, has a good rugged feel to it. My only complaint is the jacks feel a bit rough, it seems to take a bit more effort than it should to insert a 1/4 inch plug (especially the outputs)... then again, they might just need to be broken in a bit.

Are u saying that while mixing, u cant use the compressor or eq, you have to re-record the track to a new track and add as u record

yep, that's the deal. If you use the spdif connections, you wont lose quality on the pass, at far as AD convertions are concerned.
The effects are still useful for tracking, avoiding clipping, etc..., it's just a pain to use them for mixing down.

In any case, the effects weren't the deciding factor for me buying the card, but it's still a good thing to know if your considering buying it yourself.

Thanks for the answer.

Can you compare the sound to a higher end card then a SB ?.

Is there any where I can find users complaning or praising
on the internet ?.

Mr Underwood Sir, can you tell me the spec of your machine and how well your new soundcard performs??

I have a (old) P200 with 64meg of memory, do you think I could record 2 tracks at the same time at a medium/high sampling rate??

Thanks,
Cazz.

ps: if you have anymore comments to make about the card, please pass them on! :)

I'm running a (older) Pentium 166, 64 megs, 20 gig 5400 rpm eide hard drive, with Cakewalk Pro Audio 8.

I can record all four channels at once at 24 bit 44.1 khz while playing back 16 tracks at the same quality (and the system still responds well, too!), so I'm assuming you should be able to manage at least that; our systems seem fairly similar.
