What is the best DI box to record bass. I have heard there are plenty out there. I want to stay in the 200-300 dollar price range. Whats the best I can get with the most capabilities but give me the best sound. I will be running it through my Tascam USB-122 interface via USB to my desktop. Thanks in advance.

(If you have a recording of your bass I would appreciate if you let me here it, and supply the equipment you used, thanks guys.)

I 2nd the Ultra-G. You can't beat it for the money.

I've got the Sans Amp Bass Driver DI also. It's got a nice sound. I don't remember exactly what I paid for it, but I think it is in the price range you mentioned.

Another SansAmp fan for DI. For live audio though, you just can't beat a real amp.

Sansamp DI handsdown. Bass is probably one of the harder things to accuratley reproduce when going direct. So a pre made for bass should, in theory, be best at it!

As a total newb to this site (my first post), I must say hello to all and I look forward to learning a lot from all of you.

As a Bass Player for 25+ years, I gotta reply to this one. In my gig bag resides a SansAmp. Can't beat it as a multi-purpose tool. I use mine both as a direct, a signal mixing device, and a buffer for my piezo-equipped acoustic/electric and electric upright basses. GREAT BOX!

Also, the last two project studios I went into used them for Bass into the desk.

My +1 for the SansAmp.

Check out the Palmer PDI-03, it can be used for guitar and bass. Very nice sound (popularised by Eddie Van Halen). It costs about 350 euros but is well worth it (you can spend up to 750 dollars for one in the US). The cheapest place to get one is from a German website www.musikproduktiv.de , I emailed them when I couldnt order through the German page and they sent me back a link to a form in English - good turn around time too.

You could get a used Groove Tubes Brick for around $300. It's a nice mic pre with a killer DI section (or you could get the GT Ditto, which is the same DI without the mic pre, new for $320).
