I'm getting ready to start a podcast and from my understanding I'm going to need a digital recorder, I know my computer will be recording but ill have the digi recorder running alongside just incase of any software crashes. So my question is this..... what digital recorder should I purchase? I currently have a 4gb creative zen with a line in for recording but I'm afraid that isn't going to cut it. I've been reading suggestions for the Rolands and Edirols and they're very nice but for a NOOB I don't wanna spend 3-400 on a recorder right away but I also don't wanna buy a ZOOM cuz ive heard nothing but negative things. I've been looking at 2 different recorders by Tascam the DR-05 and the DP-004 (pocket studio) both seem very nice and feature rich and fit in my budget. My podcast is going to be a hiphop talk show and well be recording live audio from shows/concerts (from the crowd) and doing interviews, for this id imagine the DR-05 is better? But I assume the DP-004 might be better at recording from my mixer (live show)? I'm not really sure that's why I'm asking cuz possibly the 004 will record interviews or shows just as good as the DR-05. If you have an alternate suggestion that will also be helpful.

Thanks

You need to match your soundcard's output with your recorders input. For example my soundcard outputs mic level (-40db), consumer level (-10db), line level (0db), coaxial S/PDIF, and TOSLINK which pretty much let's me hook up to anything. Your's might not be quite so versatile.

I wouldn't stress too much over what recorder to buy as long as you can connect to it and it has a decent warranty.
