The Tascam 564 has a single digital out (S/PDIF), RCA type plug on the back of the unit. The manual gives no info about how to use this except to say that it outputs tracks 1 and 2 in digital form.

I think that this means that I can tranfer these two tracks directly to my PC without converting to analog and back again. I have tried connecting this to several different sound cards (The latest was a Creative Audigy Platinum) but have been unable to get any kind of signal on my PC.

I checked all of the settings in the sound card software to be sure the S/PDIF ports were enabled. Even got a 75ohm cable. Still no signal. I can't find anything in the 564 manual that mentions turning the S/PDIF port on or off.

Can anyone give me a clue?

ive been looking for someone who knows about the 564 digital output for a year and your the first ive heard someone mention it. i cant get it to work either.

I have run my 564's digital out (SPDIF) to my SONY CD burner and had no problem. As far as I know there is no ON/OFF switch. I've never tried to connect it to a PC as my soundcard doesn't have SPDIF I/O.
