As previous posted stated, Many analog mixers have automation, but that said I think automation is totally overrated. It makes me sad when I see people buy consoles for the automation, when they could have bought a far better sounding console without automation for the same money.
I would say in the last hundred records I have mixed, I have probably used console automation on about 5% of those and many of those records were mixed in studios with high end automated consoles. Just yesterday I was mixing a record on a 56 input SSL and never once fired up the automation.
In many ways automation can slow a mix down, because it gets easy to start micro mixing instead of going with the flow. Also if you mixing off of a DAW like pro tools or Cue Base you can use the software automation for small adjustments or muting.
