Digital Mixer Automation Question

Hey,

I've seen the digital mixers that boast automation but does this also mean they function as a control surface, not so much to control the whole software like the Mackie control but just to recall the software mixer (ie: moving the software mixers slider moves it on the desk and vice versa)?

The two don't necessarily go together.

Id approach it differently like if the computer itself was a tape machine and the Mixer itself was doing all the prosessing...you can still do whatever you need to do that way...but you are limited on tracks you can use to how many your interface can input into the thing.

It's just it seems a good idea to combine the control surface with the mixer to save on space.
