Yes, there is a difference between them and I have the hernia scars to prove it!
(The Rhodes is a monster to move around!)
They use different methods to create their distinctive sounds. The Wurlitzer uses metal "reeds" and the Rhodes "tines" (essentially little tuning forks which are a joy to tune). I'm no electronic genius so I'll leave it to someone else to delve into the differences in their electronics, but they are both unique and both quite useful in their own ways.

If you want to hear the differences take a listen to "The Dream Weaver" from Gary Wright that's a Rhodes he is playing. Sheryl Crowe's "All you Wanna Do" is a Wurlitzer.
I still have my Rhodes 73 but sold my Wurlitzer, those damn reeds...I had to replace them so many times. If you gig heavily you would need to carry spare reeds and even then still had to get a pro to file them down to tune.
Thank God for these workstations, don't have to carry them Beasts around anymore.

which workstation has the best "emulation" of a rhodes and wurlizter?

I guess it would be a matter of taste and or tweeking. I have a YAMAHA Motif Classic and I like the Rhodes and Wurli that is on it but I also tweeked them to my taste.
Most of the Newer workstations, (ROLAND, YAMAHA, KORG0 all have decent Rhodes and Wurli sounds but I hink they all need some adjustments but that's just me.
