Did someone let out the secret?

Good morning gents, today is the day. Pools, leaves, cars, bathrooms, I could put them all on hold to fuck around in the studio:D but today, is one of those days when I can't procrastinate one iota. On thursday I rented a $100 a day jackhammer, to break up the concrete in front of my kitchen sink. Yes, I have the dreaded leaky pipe under the slab and flooding the outside and running out of hot water syndrome.
CRRRRRRRRRaaaaaaaap!! I called in a plumber with one of those electronic steathiscope thingys to locate such an animal. Ha, 2 hour minimum, $160 an hour:eek:
FUCK THAT, shit thats a new hardrive out the window. Ok, what to do. What would dad do? Ok, look, look, look. Got it. What are the clues? Hot spot in concrete floor in front of sink. Gets colder the farther I feel from it. But......could it be under the NEW cabinets
I just completely built from scratch.? Fuck, that means I have to TEARTHEM OUT
Not a snowballs chance in hell. Ok, lets figure this out. I gutted the whole wall and since
I had to redo all the exposed plumbng cause I twisted the old copper supply lines when taking off the old supply faucets, and they cracked. SHit, that was hard enough soldering new fittings to the supply lines IN THE WALL:rolleyes: Maybe they didn't hold and are leaking down the inside of the wall, and out from under the stucco outside. Hmmmmm, Outside, there is a shutoff valve, right where the leak was, and the supply pipe comes up through a small 2' square concrete slab. Lightbulb!! I'll break up the slab and dig a trench to the drain cleanout 4' away. Drill a hole in the plastic pipe about 8" down and let the standing water drain into it. So far so good. The water is drained. Ok, now to break the slab. Pull trigger with chisle in middle of slab. Bam, bam bam. Cool. Now, carefull wedge the chisle and move....Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! AGGGGGGGGRRRRRR!!! Water coming out pipe. Turn it off... quick. Where the fuck is the main shut off. Quick. Look look loooook. Shit no cutoff. Call water company. Their busy. 2 hours later, guy shows up. Looooooooooooks for an hour. With electronic metal detectors etc. No cutoff. Shit, my backyard is flooding. Ah, gets signal, starts digging for buried valve. House is 50 yrs old.
4 hours, later, its 10:oo at night. No valve. 6' x 8' hole. Gives up for the night. Water still leaking. Shit. Yesterday morning. Call water company. Its 10:00 and no guy. Wha the fuck. Oh, 2 new guys. Looks like experts. They look. Laugh at previous guys work.
Turn on metal detector. Ha!, 2 ft from hole, concrete pipe with lid buried under 1" of dirt. Clean out accumulated dirt, and voila! Turn off water. Crap, that means I have to go to work. Where are my old clodhoppers., mud like sticky shit. builds up 3" thick on boots. Remove slab pieces.. And dig in mud and water. Holy crap this sucks. Giant fucking roots around pipe. 2 hours and I'm finaly at elbow. Find break at threads. Pipe too old to fix. AGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRR. Gotta dig up old pipe back to next union.
2 guys tell me, "DON'T TOUCH VALVE" Too sensitive to breakage. Crap, if I have to unscrew old pipe from valve, I could break it, and HOLY SHIT, now they would have to come out and shut down the whole damn neighborhood, bring in a backhoe, dig up the old valve and replace...all at my expense if I break it. CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAP. There goes anykind of dreams of new studio:( :( . Ok, time to think about this. Start digging to next union. Pipe is at angle to valve. 8' later, shit, they didn't even put in a 45 elbow.
They just bent the fucking pipe!AGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRR!!. Give up. Go in and log in here for the night.
Today, fuck, no getting around it. Gotta face the music. Can't flush the toilet. Wife PISSED. KIDS PISSED. I'M PISSED. Crappy coffee, dirty boots and cloths, gettin cold out side. WOE IS ME!! See ya later. Much later. Ha!
fitz:confused:

Music is founded on the construction and food service industry! gotta be some guys that can go help him, and some food service guys that can cater the whole crew:) make a big get together/ jam/ party of it! If I was closer I sure as hell would be over there! SOunds like we could turn rick's tragedy into fun for all!

Hahahahahahahahahhahahhaah!!!!!You made my day pipeline! thanks for the holla to the guys. Much appreciated. I thought you would get a kick out that stupid murphy. Actually, his name is the satchelman, He sits around untill you are ready to do something fun, and steps up and taps you on the shoulder, and says"Uhuh, you got shit to do boy, the paperwork is right here in my satchel! You aint gonna have NOOOOOOOOOO fun today. Ha! Well, this one is a doozer, for sure, but I'll get it. Actually, already dug 20' of pipe up. Just waiting on the damn water company again STILL. What I'm getting worried about though, is rain. Its predicted Wed. If the water company gets its ass in gear, I'll finish in time. Just means more mud AGGGGGRRRRR! Hate mud! hatemud! hatemud!:D
Hey pipeline, where you been, hangin around the other forums or workin(hopefully recording)?:D Just kiddin, your really one of the "experienced guys around here. and your appreciated, I'm just an amature who wants to record my stuff and raise peoples dander. So who am I to ask dumb stuff? Anyway, thanks for the vote of confidence in the crew around here, and rallying to my predicament. Its not that bad, just something I'm not used to, let alone doing fast. Ha, but its like my dad says, Look,Look, Look, and then think. Works 90 percent of the time. Almost done. And BTW pipeline, hows your situation looking? Better I hope. Offers still here. I wish I could have taken you up on the ghost. Naturally, the satchelman had other ideas for the money... "Console? Ghost you say? Ha! I'll give you a fucking ghost. How bout this one pal! .....Oh yea, here it is. Hmmmmmmm, dept of revenue reimburs.....OH, you are in deep shit son! And on top of that, in case you get ahead of yourself again, theres a matter with the IRS, and............. Ha! Talk about ghosts! You gotta love life:D Sorry for the rants, where else can I vent?

Hey rick, Im not really doing any better financially at the momonet, but I got my partenr to buy a Trident 24/Series 65 console! SO now maybe he has some incentive to chase bands, and all will be well....we can dream. Hows the water main going ?

)
Hows the water main going ?
Gurpplll, gurrpl gulp, huh! Oh, excuse the mud:D Its comin. Got the new valve in yesterday finally. I was having trouble with communications with the fucking
"AMERICAN WATER COMPANY". What a damn joke. Last year they were "Citizens water" Now they are based in Illinois Ha! You'll like this one. When trying to get authorization for the valve, I couldn't get ahold of anyone with the authority. Thats because AMERICAN is owned by a fucking conglomerate in fucking GERMANY. How in the FUCK can that happen:eek: When I couldn't get any answers, I called channel 3 which has a program for disgruntled consumers(thats me:D)They couldn't beleive it either. Apparently they have pull:D I IMMEDIATLY had every fucking manager they have on the phone with me! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Talk about kisssssssssing ass. I had a guy out here in one fucking hour with a new valve. Thats power. Its almost done;)
(sorry for all the explicitives, mud disappears with everyone I use:D I usually am not like that pipline) Hey, hope that new console brings in LOOOOOOOOOOTS of work. Good luck. Wish I could sit behind it and stroke it like a cat. Ha! I bet it purrs too!!
fitz:)

I've been dealing with Illinois American Water Co. my whole life. They really suck.

ROFLMGDFAO.................

Sorry Rick, but the way you told that story was hilarious. Glad to hear things are on the improve.

Guys, I just put a thread up in the Mixing and Mastering forum re digi to analogue etc., and rather than cross post it to here maybe you would go read and pass comment.

Rick, it sound like your having the same kinda problems in getting the ball rolling. I had to tear apart one of my bathrooms because of a main rusting through. Recordus interuptus Item number 1. A few week ago I tore down the first wall in the way of my expansion project, and it look like my ball was going to roll. Nope, I got sick. Missed a week of work, a simple sinus infection was actually Strep. The bad thing it was the same strain of strep that leads to scarlet fever which happened to be why my 6 year old girl was sick. So this coming Saturday My dad is helping me with his 1 ton chevy truck to get some 2X4's (64 of them) and some sheet rock. I probably frame and rock just the interior of the studio, and leave the backside open until I work out several wiring anomalies. I have to add a couple circuits to the breaker box and run the power through a maze to get it where I need it.

My console is a RAMSA WR-T820B. I put the hulk on a table and mounted the meter bridge 2 week ago, my garage floor is sloping so I have level the table and measure the console to get the window for the vocal booth where its optimum. My garage is full of equip so Im constantly moving piles around to work this and that.

Ahhuuuuhg!

SoMm

It is clear your home/studio is possessed. Quickly wrap all leakly pipes in duct tape, apply structural adhesive, then wrap in paper towels.

This will give you about a week to move all your gear out, call a realtor, and sell the possessed house!!!!!!!!!

Hey frederic, how ya doin guy? Yea, its "possesed" alright! By the builders "ghosts". Man, I wish I would have been an inspector then. I'd given these "carpenters" a rash of shit they'd never seen.:p Old 58 trackt house built by morons. You probably have some of your own headaches too I'd bet! Say, I looked at your home studio pics last night on Johns site. Your a utilitarian type guy. I admire that. Looks cool too! Say, I have to say, I never did get around to listening to your stuff. I WILL TONIGHT, I promise!!
Looking forward to it actually. And you know what. I'd like to download some stuff from you guys if you don't mind and dump it into my 16 trk to add some guitar to it.:D Which brings up a question that I think you could answer, frederic. I'll post that tonight or email ya. OK? Anyway, in regards to adding stuff, thats with your permission only too! I think it would be fun. Who cares if its not perfect radio spec recordings. I mean this is HR right?:D
I am going to go over to RECORDING ENGINEERS studio soon(relatively)to lay some tracks, and have him play some drums. He's got great acoustics and quiet. Then I'll dump them to the MSR, and start havin some real fun!! But I have to build him a diffuser first ;) I've got an idea that I've been toying with for a long time. Now's the time to do it, but I got to lay it out in CAD after I take "as is" field dimensions from his control room. I like to work in real numbers. Design is one thing, reality is another animal. Ha! I see it all the time with MACYS. The architect designs one thing, but by the time the building is real, a lot of things change, especially when you deal with perimeter type stuff. anyway, same ole bla bla bla rick, sorry!
fitz :) :)

Hey ausrock, SMM, pipeline and the rest of you gentleman. Thanks for the support and communication. Startin to feel like one of the gang:D And thats a great feeling. I have probably irritated every one of you one time or other. Nothin intended ever though! Its nice to be accepted and to meet people from around the world. How cool! I'd never met anyone without HR! I LOVE this place. It rocks. Of course, theres a few shits, and I'm one of them sometimes:rolleyes: Got my ups and downs too, but I'm here to help in my own way, learn, and just plain BS, cause its fun! Don't have anyone here except my closest friends who are into music, but not HR too much. My best freind,(35 yrs) is comin out tomorrow night. Were going to laugh, listen to old tapes, play guitars and punch in chords to his songs in BB11 for overall layouts, and dump it to the MSR. Ha! Probably won't get past the old tapes and laughs!:D
And SMM..
The bad thing it was the same strain of strep that leads to scarlet fever which happened to be why my 6 year old girl was sick.
Hello SMM, my heart goes out to you. Sometimes when you think you have it bad, it pays to count your blessings, cause theres always someone with MUCH DEEEPER problems than crap like mine. Its nothing. How is she now? My moms sister was diagnosed with scarlet fever when she was 6 too! She had a temp of 106 for 7 days and she never returned to normal. That was in 1946. She lived with my grandmother who took care of her for her whole life. I'll pray to my lord for you and your family, with a healthy dose of it for your daughter. He is the way. Please keep me posted.
Life is full of joys, misery, mystery and change. The last one is what I pray for the better. Enough of my opinions. Excuse me. Its just that I AM a caring person. I have kids of my own, and understand the depth of love they bring. And the depth of grief when things happen that are beyond our control. I hope you and your daughter are better soon. That is nothing to fool with. I know. My son had the same strep. Scared me to death for a week. You are in my prayers.
Sincerely, Rick

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! alright enough already, my sides are splittin cause of that one SMM!! Hey frederic, I know the name of the "spirit" now. Its called:
Recordus interuptus !   He has another name too!
The satchel man. I told about him earlier. Now I know his REAL NAME!:D Hmmmm, I wonder if he has other alias's?:p Oh yea, its "honeycanyoudothis" and "Hello, myname isBLABLAfromtheIRS", and other HR defeating demons. Most can be delt with. Some are not so forgiving. As in SMM's case. The only thing that you can call on for that is prayer. Some a fistwaving, others loud cursing threats:D and still others-"yes mam!:D
fitz:)

damn, we gotta make a HR collaboration song called " Satchel Man " now :)

Hahahahaha, thats an outrageous idea pipeline! I've got the perfect tune for it. And wait till my best friend hears about that idea. He already wrote a verse for it a long time ago, cause weve had our eye out for that cat for 30 yrs. Thats how long we been laughin about it. "Hey, did you here the one about the satchel man? He's so sneaky even his farts are stealth. You heard about the breath of life. Were talkin breath of death!" That type of goofy stuff. He's been crackin us up forever. He's the stuff of legend around my house. Even my kids crack jokes, just not too loud. Ha! Cause they KNOOOOOW hes for real! We were always makin up goofy stuff though. Hey, you remember "Dialin for Dollars. One time we got into a fattie smokin contest, and got to makin up oneliners about that name. Well some how we substituted the word "grill" for dialing. Man, talk about all the things you can substitute grill for. Like "Grilling banjos", or "your grillfriend" or the song "In the grill of the night", or "I found my grill, on blueberry hill" or "Grill your heart out", and on and on. Boy, talk about stoned. Or get a life. One of the two. Hmmm Thats Grilliant! Once we started laughing though, we couldn't stop. No MATTER HOW DUMB it was. We was rollin on the ground. It went on for hours! A straight person would have had us committed! or is that Grilled! But the best one was still "grilling for dollars" Ha! I crack up every time I think about that! Hey,it must be late cause I ain't makin noooooooo sense...lets see....grilling.com. or...nah, its late. The satchel man though. Man, thats serious stuff! Gotta be carefull talkin bout him. He don't take to it kindly. He'll pull somethin outta the satchel like pourin oil in your radiator when your in a hurry and not thinkin, or startin a tune off in Bb when the band starts in A, or.......hush, hush, here he comes! AHHHHH....SPTOOEEEEEEE.......damn I didn't see that fucking fly in the coffee cup! AGGGGGRRRRR! Damn him!!!!:D (forgive my bla bla bla, I tend to amuse myself when typing late at night) Hey, theres another one, muses, ah yes the muses. Shit. Thats another story. Another day. Gotta go to bed.

OK, to change the direction of this thread slightly:) ............

Tascam 80-8 recorders...........What can you guys tell me about them and would anyone have a clue as to a fair price for one in average condition with the Tascam dbx unit.

Hi ausrock, I just sold one with dbx. $400. The only thing I didn't like were the pivot guides(I don't know the real name) I think they gummed up too easy. Decks with roller guides like the TSR are better. Of course, more expensive.
fitz
Bet you think I couldn't keep it short, huh?:D

Bet you think I couldn't keep it short, huh?

Rick, that cracked me up big time......ROFLMAO:D .

This 80-8 has been sitting in a local music shop on consignment for it's owner for at least 18 months. Apparently it was originally checked out to be all OK but I think his asking price of $1200 Aust (approx $630 US) is too much. Considering what else is on the market over here, I doubt that I would consider going much over $400 for it.

Hey ausrock, what time is it there. Its 11:10 PM here. Of course, you may read this tomorrow. Or is that today here. Or yesterday there:confused: Ha! This net stuff amazes me. Where is your city? I find this facinating I can meet someone clear across the world with the same interests as I. I know, what a moron. Are you a musician also?
Sorry for all the questions. I don't get a chance to leave my city very often, let alone see the other side of the globe. And I'm a curious person:D I'd give anything to visit your country. My son is leaving in January to visit there. He can't wait. Anyway, thanks for the communication.
fitz:)

Me again ausrock, say, I thought you were into digital? Maybe I'm confusing you with someone else. Hmmmm. Oh well. I think your right about too much for the 80-8. Unless that was all that was available. Anyway, cheers!
