Trailing Behind Again
Awhile back I was asking how to get my mixes a bit louder without destroying them. I got some pretty good ideas, so I went out and tried it on one of my older songs. The results were substantial, but not surprising.
I was able to get my mix much louder; in fact, I could almost compete with a commercial mix. But, just like the commercial mix, I lost almost all the dynamics, and adding that limiter and other gadgets to the mix forced me to remix due to certain frequencies going through the roof on me.
A side-by-side comparison of the two left me believing that I can do without the ear-splitting loudness and be happy with a mix that truly is music, vice pink and white noise on sale for $21.95.
I can post a sample of both mixes if anyone else would like to hear it.
