I recently acquired a used Denon DTR-2000 digital audio tape deck for $120. The transport is fully functional (playback/all functions okay) but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to put the unit in record mode! Pressing REC, REC+PLAY, REC+PAUSE have no effect. I'm worried that the remote control (which I DON'T have) may be required for recording, in which case I'll be either hunting down a compatible remote or offering the deck for sale.

If anyone could help that would be much appreciated!

If you do suceed in getting that machine working you will find yourself up to your ass in fussy little tape cassettes that the best manufacturers have stopped making leaving only the crappy ones on the market and why would you want to do that to yourself?

Cut your losses now, save yourself a WHOLE bunch of time, trouble and money and invest in a CD based system. CD burners can be had for about what you paid for your DAT if you're willing to use your computer as a front end...

The Denon DAT deck was more of a hobby purchase than anything. I use a Tascam 2488 digital portastudio for my main projects. I have realized in the past week how hard it is to find DAT tapes though, believe me....basically one store in the whole city (350 000 people) that had any in stock. The ones I found were HHB and appeared to be of professional grade.

Did you managed to record? I got one of these and apparently I can record, but when I finish and rewind the tape, I can't hear any sound. Help please!

Is the record tab on the tape closed...?
