I was reading some specs that said up to 4 deltas could be ran at once providing 32 analog ins and 4 stereo s/pdif ins. My question is concerning the s/pdif inputs....reading these specs made me wonder if this means a total of 8 mono inputs via s/pdif? I currently have 2 Delta 1010's and use the spdif as a 9th input on each but the way the specs read, could I get 2 spdif ins on each card???

The S/PDIF should be the ninth and tenth inputs as that channel is defined as a stereo stream.

Don't know how this plays out on multi-card installations.

maybe I dont understand fully how this works....the spdif input is on the PCI card itself...there is an in and an out. how do you get 2 seperate channels out of the single connector? I currently use a V-amp spdif out to the spdif in of the delta. Im confused as to how to get 2 seperate channels out of this...

It's a single RCA-looking jack but it carries a digital signal that has two separate signals encoded in the stream.

Hence the name Delta 1010 as opposed to the Delta 0909. :D

So if I have 2 V-amps, and I want to connect them both via s/pdif....how would you do that?

I just D/Led the pdf of the V-amp specs and they mention no S/PDIF outputs...

What model V-amp? I must have the wrong one...

The rack-mount V-Amp Pro/Bass V-Amp Pro units have S/PDIF output capabilities. The foot pedal versions don't.

You can't bring S/PDIF in simultaneously from two separate devices with a single S/PDIF connection. The two channels are muxed (it sends one sample of the left channel, then one channel of the right channel in alternation, IIRC) into a single data stream. It isn't realistically separable or combinable.

S/PDIF isn't necessarily stereo, though. It's a bit stream that can contain any number of things, including stereo data, quadraphonic data, or 5.1 encoded (compressed) data. There is, of course, no guarantee that the drivers for any given audio interface can handle anything above basic consumer stereo.... :D

soooo...I would need a 2 channel AD converter to get 2 channels into my Delta 1010 via s/pdif....is that correct??? if so....any recommendations?

dgatwood was talking about the problems of mixing two S/PDIF signals going into TWO 1010s. The stereo S/PDIF out on the V-AMP pro will send stereo to the single S/PDIF jack on a 1010.

but that was not my original question....My question is, can I get 2 seperate tracks into s/pdif of a single delta 1010....even if it means purchasing something else....

The answer is yes, but only with a two-channel S/PDIF preamp or similar.

coolness....I was thinking about some new converters....I can still track drums with my delta converters and get something new for everything else....sooo.....something in the lines of 2 channels....hhmmmmmm...
