a little more info:

by plugging the headphones directly into 1 and 2 out on my delta 1010 i discovered that both are on the left channel. so my new (and slightly less complex) question is: how do i send channel 2 to the right. (it is sending the right channel to the left, if that makes sense)

also (gosh), i cant seem to get an output from 3/4 or any of the other outputs. i have all hardware outs patched to their corresponding wav outs on the delta software.

you can't plug headphones in to the back of the 1010 and get stereo. out 1 is the left channel and out 2 is the right. So if the outputs can power headphones then you need a y cable that goes from stereo female to dual mono. The best thing to do is to put out 1/2 into a mixer, pan 1 left and 2 right and then plug headphones into the headphone output. A balanced chord won't make the output of channel 1 stereo.

Open up your mixer applet for the Delta. You probably aren't getting any signal from the other outputs because they are muted in your software mixer.

yeah i know what you guys are saying.

you said that 1 is left and 2 is right

that is true.

but they both send on the left channel. so i am getting the stereo combination all on the left channel (or left earpiece of a headphone).

in your multitrack software you have to choose which output you want each track to go to. Otherwise it is probly set to the monitor mixer and if the two tracks are both mono each track would be identicle. Since the outputs on the card are mono it will only send it to the left ear.

The reason you are getting only 1 side has nothing to do with panning. It is a result that the Deltas outputs are balanced only sending out on tip sleeve so no matter what output you come out the tip / ring/sleeve plug of the headphones is only going to recieve the audio to one side. You will have to get a dual mono 1/4 inch to headphone cable in order to get audio to both sides. Even then I doubt there is enough juice to drive a headphone.

Get a headphone amp or a cheap mixer, the 1010 IS NOT designed to power headphones AT ALL! Those are Balanced line outs and are designed to go to a line input.

Get a HA4600 or 4700, or a low end behri mixer, and hook your outs up to that.

BTW how are you getting signal IN to the 1010?

i already have a headphone amp splitter deal. all i needed was a y-cord that specified tip and ring. that way it converted to a stereo on both channels, rather than all on the left. thanks for the help everyone.

Just what the heck is a a "headphone amp splitter deal" exactly?

So now you have stereo on both the left and the right channels?

Cool! I just gotta learn that trick!

I think I'll need some really special headphones for that.:p
