Delay setting for lead guitar

Set the delay so it repeats every quarter note and it only repeats two or three times until it gets burried in the mix.

Unless you are going for a slapback delay, then keep it between 50-75ms

unless you are going for a doubler, then 25-50ms

unless you are going for a long delay, then keep it above 400ms

unless you want it to repeat musically, but not something obvious like quarter notes, ten set it for a dotted or triplet value.

Unless you are looking for an effect I cant think of this early in the morning, then you will have to do what everyone told you and play with the knobs until it sounds right. There is no standard 'heavy metal lead guitar delay setting'. It's always different and depends in the effect you want, the tempo of the song and other things, like whether the lead is melodic or shred...

There are way too many variables to answer the question you asked. You may as well have asked "how long is a piece of string?"
 
Most important thing to do is set the Delay level to 0 and then gradually lower your guitar's volume. When you can't hear anything at all, you're good to go. Or you could think about one of those guitars with inbuilt delay (which is essentially a second set of strings that get played after you play the first one, pretty cool, Gibson have some that do this). Lastly, don't bother on a guitar with less than two pickups - obviously two pickups are louder than one, three are louder than two etc, and as you set your FX level to 0, you're gonna need a lot of volume. Make sense?

Actually man, though a funny pic, that is exactly the best answer for the OP's question. Before he edited the post he wanted to know which particular setting was good for lead guitar. There is no direct answer for this question without involving personal taste and knowing the particular VST. A suggestion is even tough to give without hearing any particular song. Messing with the plug and using you own 'ears' is the absolute correct answer. Period/done/say no more.

Then the guy went into defensive mode and pretty much screwed any chance of getting real advice from the more experienced members by not realizing that the question was answered with a picture and a sense of humor. What happened to having a sense of humor anyway? If he doesn't get it, and wants people to give him only the answers he wants, then he will not benefit from this site or anyone's advice for that matter.

The only person being a dick was the original poster..........and you. He edited his question and some of his responses, so you have no idea how much of a jerk off he was. Parts of some of his responses are quoted in other people's posts, so you can get an idea of how much of a lazy, entitled idiot he is. He even complained that he had to "do all the work himself"....boo hoo.

But even if he wasn't a jerk, which he was, Greg's picture with the ear is still the best answer anyone can give. How can anyone answer "What settings should I use on my delay for heavy metal". There is no good response to that other than "Use your ears". So maybe you should get over yourself.

Oops, I missed this.

I believe your toy microphone pic was in the noob forum. We try not to be as sarcastic there. I myself thought it was funny and didn't really find issue with that pic you posted. It was funny to me. :)
