Default Sample and Bit Rates

I got curious about what sample and bit rates I was recording at. I have not changed the settings since I first DL'd Reaper several weeks ago. I just assumed the default rates were 44100 and 16-bit, but these screens (below) show 44100 and 24-bit WAV. Am I reading this wrong?

44.1 24-bit is where I would record. That is pretty much standard and where you should start IMO.

Having a higher bit depth is more important than having a higher sample rate when multi-tracking. It is debatable whether going above 44.1k makes much difference, but pushing the rounding errors way down below the self noise of any of the analog equipment in the signal path is an advantage.
