Howdy!! Just curious, but I have just joined the digital PC recording world, but I am looking for a small, inexpensive "recorder" to put on the coffee table, sometimes I get this riff, or cord progression going and the next day I will be like......what the $*#&@##Ck was I playing last night???? Sometimes it is too late (I work 2cnd shift) or I am too lazy (go figure!!) to fire up the PC and load everything, to just record a little jam or some such item. Any one no of any brand, type, costs of some thing of this type? Don't want to spend a fortune, but, then again It would be nice if is sounded halfway decent. Thanx...........later

he-he, from one Bear to another... (I was here FIRST!)

Just go to your local Office Depot and pickup one of those cheap voice recorders used for recording lectures or meetings.

Yes - it's going to sound like shit!! But who cares if you only want to use it as a scratchpad!!!

If you want something that small but sounds good you're going to have to go to some flavour of minidisc....

cooooolll.....

Thanxxxxxxxxx, That is kinda what I was thinking, I have just learned so much from hanging out around here that I figured that I would "ask" what everyone else with this situation was doing. This place is amazing. It is hard to get into this realm or digi-recording, there is just so much out there!!! It is nice to be able to read/hear what everyone else is doing.

Thanx for the input....and imagine...two bears bouncing about in cyberspace.....just what is this world coming to??? :) Later...

small recorder

i was tracking vocals on my tascam 246 and they sounded terrible. for some reason, the $10 microphone just wasn't living up to its pricetag. anyway, i had a handheld recorder i would sing into, then use the headphone out to the four track's input.
sounded much, much better. only problem is, you'll have to figure the right speed. i just sped up and slowed down the vocals (recorder), depending on how it was sync ing up. which actually made the song more interesting and a lot better.

Just saw this in another thread...It's not the cheapest alternative, but I bet it's half decent...Search on the web for the zoom ps02..It's really small and easy to use, plus you can add bass and drum tracks!!!
I'm using my minidisc and a sony stereo mic (ecm907 I think). It sounds really good, but again it's a pretty big investment if you don't use the MD for anything else...

ouch!!!!

Thanx, I checked it out....a little pricey for my budget though!!!! It seems like a neat package. I bought a little recorder from Staples, and it solved the problem. I just kind of needed it to remember what I was playing when the "thought" came to life, too involved to hook up my entire rig, fire up the PC, just for a 30 second "muscial brain fart"!!!!!! Thanx for the input though!!!!
