Deca 424 for Proto J powering?

Do you think a peavy deca/424 is good enough for powering a pair of tannoy Proto J's?

I am thinking of getting the package with the hafler Ta1100 amp, But I have a deca424 sitting here from my live rig and would like to spend $200 for a pair of proto j's rather than $350.00 for the speaker amp package.

Well the deca has been a really good amp for me. I also have a peavy cs800x that I am very happy with. The cs800x is a little hissy but most are when cranked to 11. The thing I love about them for live is the DDT compressor. You never know it's working but you can tap these amps out for hours and never a problem.

Any way, the only thing I am worried about is having that much power hooked to the proto j's.

Are you happy with yours? I would like to keep the learning curve to a minimun.. By that I mean, can you mix to where it sounds great on the proto's and have it sound good on almost anything?

Do you think the proto j's are the bes bang for the buck? I also se hafler has a $99.00 each monitor speaker out also available in the amp/monitor package, and I am seeing these krk monitors cheap to but have never heard them mentioned in the group?

I know it is the same old question everyone is asking, sorry I just do not have the time to drive to the city and check them out. I will more than likely go mail order.

What I need is Big $$$$$ then It would be so much easier.

I took home a pair of those Hafler M5's when i bought my Hafler TA1100 amp (299 packageprice)...guitar center matched a MF internet special that was going on....

anyway, they were seriously lacking on the low end...i was looking for something with a smaller low end because i was advised that would be ebst when monitoring in a acoustically challenged room.....i took back the M5's and they gave me back $150 so i came out with the amp forabout $150...suckers....

anyway, i had really liked the sound of the Yorkville YSM1's when i heard them and Bruce had posted that the ProtoJ's sounded pretty similar....couldnt A/B them but from what i recall they are very close.....

to get to the point, i really like them....getting the low end right on them was a small challenge but this was the first real monitor i worked on at home.....the stereo imaging is pretty awesome and theyare pretty darn flat....yes the mixes on them translate well to other playback systems......

That pretty much says it. I checked the specs on the tannoys and the are very flat for the price. I think my mind is made up now.

......and may I add that the Proto-J's run good on ANY kind of
amp! I've used them with my QSC, GLI and Pyramid power-amps,
AIWA home stereo and SONY reciever and all maintain that clean,flat response for a pair of budget monitors (as long as you keep the tone controls at the flat position)
